You might be right but he's still only 24(?), has prem experience, champions league experience, and even a cap for England, so I feel he could definitely do a job as a squad player for us.
Trouble is Davies and Emerson are squad players. We need someone who is legit competition for Udogie and Porro.

I agree. But KWP is a much better fit than Emerson and Davies for the inverted role. So much so I don’t see why he couldn’t provide genuine competition for Porro/Udogie.

I just don't see our recruiting team targeting a 27-yo player in the championship. It just does not fit our current squad-building operation.

He is not going to grow into a player who can replace Porro or Udoggie, and he is not at the level to slot in seamlessly now.

I think we will probably replace Davies with a younger player, and save Royal's replacement for the following summer, or maybe January. Royal is, after all - 2 years younger than KWP, and more likely to improve.

I think we’ll keep Davies mostly for CB rotation, sell Royal and target an inverted fullback who can plausibly cover either side. Emerson is just wasted in this system that demands all the things he struggles with and rarely highlights his defensive talents.

If we sell Royal - we would have to get a LB and a RB - because Davies can't cover that role any more.

For CBs - we would have Dragusin and Phillips as CB 3 and 4, with Royal an emergency 5.

We need that either way because Royal (while a more talented traditional fullback) is even less of an inverted FB than Davies. I think a reasonably two-footed player comfortable in the inverted role could probably cover both sides better than either of them.

Royal will have a much higher sale value, and both Dragusin and Phillips seem to be more comfortable at RCB than on the left, so Davies makes more sense to hold for emergencies. Would be sad to see Emerson leave but he could be a starting RB at a good team in a different system.

Are Emerson and Davies so much of a drop off from Porro and Udogie that they don't have their own threads? 😜 There was I coming in here thinking there might be some better news on his injury front...

Really interesting stat i came across. In the top 5 leagues this season, pedro porro is the highest rated RB. Just shows how good of a season he has been having and in some ways how underrated he has been by some, (mainly pundits who never seem to mention him.)

(Having said that, i am still surprised be beat out frimpong from leverkusen).

Happy to have Emerson defend against Eze as long as we have Udogie attacking on the left.
