Bayern’s wide players are hilariously greedy.

“Got one of the best strikers in the world in the box. Shall I cross it? Fuck no.”
It’s been part of their problem this season. There’s very little interplay among the forward players. Everyone wants the glory of scoring.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but I honestly don't think that Saka pen would even have been given in the PL. The motion was so obvious and so far outside of his normal gait that the only conclusion is that he initiated the contact and was trying to con the ref and VAR.

That said the PL VAR lot seem to be totally incapable of recognising nuance and would probably end up hiding behind (and tying themselves up in ridiculous knots over) "clear and obvious"...

The referees in the PL are weak, the on field decision would have been penalty because of the fear they have of Arteta, and VAR wouldn't over turn it.

Saka does this every week in the PL, thankfully because of last night he's getting rightly called out. We might start seeing those soft fouls he gets stop being so frequent now

It's a difficult conundrum, on the one hand I'd love to see Arsenal dumped out of the Champions League in the second leg. On the other, it's not only the incentive of an extra Champions League place that wouldn't leave me too upset if the get to they get to the Semi finals.

3 days after our fixture they would be facing either Real Madrid or Man City in what would be a blockbuster of a tough fixture for them we already have Chelsea away and Liverppol away, and I don't care what form Chelsea are in, following up the NLD with those two away is a big ask, so for some parity I want them to have it as tough rather than Bournemouth at home.

I know I’m in a minority but I’ve never understood the hype about him. He runs around a lot and points a lot but other than that ??. Always saw him as bit of a headless chicken.
In fairness to him though I thought he was superb in the League Cup against us last season.

I didn’t watch their game, so maybe he had a bad night, but he’s been a game-changer for them. Best defence in the league and a lot of that is down to him (and the CB pairing).

They lose him to injury for the run-in, and they can forget winning the league.

Mad how many games Sane hasn’t scored for. Saka is class to be fair but he is hot and cold.

Yes but even when he’s not scoring you have to keep a close eye on him as he has the ability to create something in the blink of an eye. Whereas with our hot and cold players e.g. Kulusevski he doesn’t have that killer instinct

Not crying corruption, and personally I agree with the spirit of the game comments despite despising them, but if Bayern had fans in the stadium it would’ve been given as a pen imo as the noise would have drawn attention to it.

I’m ok with the ref not giving that penalty for Gabriel’s handball as Arsenal gained no advantage from it (would have been different if a Bayern player was pressing). However, for all the credit we’ve given the ref on here for not giving Saka the penalty late on, I wonder if he was conscious that he had let Arsenal get away with one so was reluctant to give one the other way.

Scores of 2-2 and 3-3 with the away goals rule would've made the second legs so much more intense IMO.

It was the only scenario in football where one single goal could turn defeat into victory. Scrapping it was a huge mistake.

I don't see how Arsenal getting an advantage or not matters. There are offsides called where the attacker doesn't have an obvious advantage but it's black and white - if he was behind the last defender (or whatever the rule is when the keeper is involved as well) when the ball was struck, then he's considered offside. It would've been a harsh pen to give because Gabriel obviously didn't mean to do it but it was a hand ball in the box and, at the end of the day, these are the latter stages of the most elite club competition in the world and shit happens. Mistakes should be punished, even if the ref considers it a "kid's mistake".

I think some are showing their bias because it’s Arsenal. Yeah they’re a bunch of pricks and Arteta should be the first person locked up for being annoying but we really don’t want to see these types of things given as penalties.

If we look at the Madders incident the other day, if the ref/var don’t use common sense, it’s likely a red, you can’t initiate contact like that. But fortunately for us they recognise that it would be silly to ruin the game over a nothing moment. Thats what the Gabriel incident is - a nothing moment.

Common sense officiating would've led to us not conceding a penalty 30 seconds into the CL final...

The game runs on this basis. The rules are the rules and they are either applied or they are not. Common sense doesn't come into it. Maddison perhaps deserved a red, although if that was punch, my gran can hit harder... Also if the rules are applied as they should - Yates leaves with him at the weekend, for gesturing for VAR, and for about 3 yellow card offences.

Let's face it - many penalties are awarded in positions where there is absolutely zero chance of scoring. A 0.1 xG position or less. The corners of the box, the byline, contact in the box where there are 3 covering defenders. But they are given because the rules are the rules.

You can't excuse Gabriel for being thick or having a brain fart - brain farts are also part of the game. Either apply the rules or don't. 'Common sense' shouldn't come into it, otherwise we'd change the shape of the penalty box and lots of other things in football.

But things changed after that, shit for us but everyone saw it as stupid. The handball rule is much better now, you never see those given.

Like the Sissoko chest/armball in 2019 when the pass was going away from the goal after 26 seconds.

This is in the rules and I think most believe in this case ‘spirit of the game’ was applied correctly.

It’s handball and a pen.

no spirit of the game bullshit, the player fucked up, the end, but was very, very lucky.

never a pen on saka as well, he should have stayed up and scored, bottled it big time.
