I reckon he was a priority because of HG concerns. Dier, Sanchez, Lloris, Perisic etc leaving will free up non HG spaces and I think we'll go for someone better from abroad than Adarabioyo when the time comes.

well he wants to be a starter so can't see him coming here/us still interested in him
Thing is no one should be a nailed in starter, it is performances in training and games that determine who should play.

All this really says to me, if true, is that Tosin does not have either have the fight to do this or confidence that he is better than Romero or VDV

We'll shift out a load of non HG players soon enough and I think we'll be able to bring in a non HG CB who's better than him. We need to bring in someone who really pushes Romero and VdV, not somebody who knows they're just sitting on the bench.

Does he want to be a *guaranteed* starter, or is he just not interested in signing for a team that already has two better CBs than him? My guess is the latter and he just doesn't believe he's better than Romero and VDV. Which is almost certainly true.

Maybe he just wants to play football and realises he is not good enough for the Premier league and so has opted for an inferior league in order to play the game he loves? Maybe?

Is it possible we had some awareness of his injury and therefore did a U-turn on signing him as our third-choice CB?

He's been out all season, but is due back imminently, so could be a viable signing for someone (not necessarily us) in January.

Encouraging to see that we're looking at Tosin IMO, doesn't get much better as a "free" HG signing to round out what was one of our weakest positions just 12 months ago.

I get the argument for Phillips/Dorrington, but with hopefully more competitions next season, I'd be extremely confident in the four of Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin, and Tosin. Seems all those players back themselves and will fight it out for time on the pitch

Sorry but i have to disagree. I see a fair bit of him and although overall he's a decent defender, his short passing just isn't good enough to play for us. His long, right to left pings are decent - but we don't play like that.

A recent example is the Sheff United game where he's basically stood for several seconds with the ball at his feet, then passes it straight to an opponent and they go on and score (and i can remember at least one more similar incident this season alone).

On top of this, he really is a much worse player when playing on the left side of defense, so imo he'd be behind Romero (obviously) but also Dragusin for the right side spot and behind VdV, Dragusin and Davies on the left side.

On the plus side he's free, he's tall and pretty quick, and scores the odd goal - but Dragusin is all of those things and just an overall classier player (imo)

Makes no sense to me.

If we want another CB we should be targeting a left footer to provide balance. We saw how much of a difference it made when VdV was out and we played Dragusin instead of Davies.

Ideally we should bring in a LCB who can also cover LB, it will give us less work to do in the summer.

It’s a tricky one because the role of our full backs makes it a lot harder to get someone who can adequately cover LCB and LB. Most people we would be happy with covering Micky won’t be suited to playing as an attacking 10. So on paper Lloyd Kelly looks ideal - HG, on a free, decent LCB with experience at LB. But can he play udogie’s role and provide competition there? I doubt it.

Unless we can get a clear upgrade on Davies then I wouldn’t bother. It might be more realistic to find someone who can cover LW and LB (basically what we hoped Sessegnon would be)

edit to be clear I mean don’t bother with a LCB/LB combo. Although my comment on a clear upgrade on Davies as an LCB still stands. Thought he did a good job when VDV was out, he wasn’t the problem

If signing Tosin as 4th choice CB allows us to satisfy the HG issues and get in top quality attackers/midfielders from Europe, then it’s absolutely worth sacrificing getting a left footer for.

Something has to be a compromise eventually when squad building, this seems as good a compromise as you can make. Tosin is a very good player!

That stock pile, and total madness. Van de Van goes missing we are destitute. We need a specialist LCB, who can cover LB.

Think Lloyd Kelly makes more sense, as can play LCB and LB, with Dragusin covering Romero. Then only need to worry about Porro deputy.

If he didn’t have such a dreadful injury history he’d be much more sensible choice. Unfortunately even on a free I don’t think he really makes logical sense. Tosin make 0 logical sense tho.

As I said above, do we really think Kelly can play as a LB for Ange? I struggle o think of anyone I think could cover both LCB and LB to high standard in our system
