I’ve thought for weeks that I can get more excited at the prospect of having a proper go at the Europa League than I can at the prospect of us limping through 8 games in the new format of the Champions League while it simultaneously destroys our domestic campaign through fatigue. One of my biggest peeves about the club in the last decade+ is how - since Jol was sacked - we’ve never really had a go at the Europa League (or Conference League). For a while there was the notion that only the Champions League was worth being in, and I think some of our managers and players have felt they (rather then the club itself) were above the Europa. I get the feeling that Ange would relish any European competition.
I’d still like us to finish 4th and I still think we will, but I’m not going to be too disappointed if we end up in the Europa League. A Europa League campaign under this manager with a group of players who haven’t come from clubs who are conditioned to expect Champions League football could be a lot of fun.
