I think Europa League could be a blessing in disguise. Ange would probably take it serious, while he would have more chance to rotate and try players and youngsters. If we get CL, great. If not, there’s still lots of upside in playing the Europa League with an attacking coach.

Reeks of arrogance.

Like we are some super club and the only thing that stopped us from winning it before is that it is beneath us and we didn't try.

And if we "took it seriously" we would win it.
If we take it seriously then we have a chance of winning it. We have no chance of winning the CL.

I don't think anyone is saying that, well maybe a few.

But my feeling is that we have been in this tournament multiple times and the best we have done is QF.

It'd not arrogance to think that we could at least get further than that.

United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal have all gone far or won it in their limited participation.

Even fucking West Ham made the semi final.

I don't think it's unfair or arrogant to suggest Spurs do better and have a better crack at it. After all we had success in Europe in the past.

I think we treat it arrogantly by expecting to turn up and beat mediocre teams like Zagreb and Fiorentina.

I get the sentiment, as everyone would have thought the same back in 18/19.

But is quite funny that we were only one game away from winning the whole thing.

Yet we haven’t even sniffed a Europa league final in 20+ years+

If you told me the day before the season started when Kane's move to Bayern was announced that we'd be in touch with 4th in April I would have laughed my head off. I thought 5th at best, 7th at worst.

Even if we have been poor recently, this season as a whole has shown a stark improvement upon last season. Whether it's 4th or 5th, Champions or Europa League, I am happy with how this season has gone overall. I have seen enough to be positive about with hopefully a good summer and the likes of Bergvall to come in. We can push on again next year.

To be honest one of the worst things that's come out of our recent games is our lack of a good enough mentality and application. We went out with a whimper away to Fulham without looking like scoring, lacked any sort of killer instinct away to West Ham, barely testing Fabianski, and lost in poor fashion today without looking like scoring for the large majority of the game. It was the same a bit further back away to Everton, not able to impose ourselves enough, rise to the challenge and show our 'superiority'.

It's why that Chelsea game, even with them in the most dog shit state they've been in for years, I can't be greatly confident of us winning.

Didn't werner miss a sitter from 1 yard?

If Arsenal go out to Bayern and West Ham to Leverkusen and Liverpool to Atalanta it's all but over. Maybe City and Villa both winning their competitions could be enough but even that would make it close and I can't really see both going the distance.

I'm probably wrong but don't think you get extra for winning the competition which is odd

That was when it was 3-0 already and I mean in a general sense. There's always the chance that you can create a good opportunity over the 90 minutes, even if you are playing the very worst football. The point is that over the 90 minutes, the football wasn't anywhere near good enough and did not have us 'looking' like scoring.

We're not winning the CL next year so would rather go and really try for the Europa league. Get a trophy and push on from there.

If you that defeatist attitude what's the point in playing in the Premier league? Maybe we should get demoted as well!

The absolute weirdo in me is looking forward to the upcoming run of horrible fixtures. Seems ages since we went in to a match where we weren't favourites to win.

completely agree. we always play better against the 'better' sides and we're far less likely to shit the bed. losing against a top team is neither here nor there but losing to a team that supposedly we should be beating is always a knife in the ribs.

The good chances we had were mostly when the game was over at 3-0, so the xg stats will probably highly reflect that.

Not that I know how xg fully works as I don't pay attention to it. But hey, if you want to argue that it was a performance where we looked like scoring because of a flurry when we were 3-0 down, that's fine by me 👍

Currently I can't wait for the NLD, but I know I'll feel like absolute shit when the day rolls around.

But the Lane should be a cauldron and if they've had another shaky couple of results we can finish them.

There's nothing more I want than for us to step on their necks again

Even fucking West Ham made the semi final.

Even Fulham and Middlesbrough have been to the final of the Europa League/Uefa Cup since Levy has been at Tottenham.

But the problem isn’t that we haven’t won it or even been to the final. It’s that we regularly fail to make it even as far as the quarter finals.

The last time we reached the Europa League quarters was in 12/13. That’s eleven years ago.

And that was only second time, going back as far as 1990 that we made it as far as the quarters.

I don’t think the quarter finals are an unrealistic expectation for a club of our stature. But just twice in multiple attempts over thirty five years is pretty pathetic.

It is mildly irritating that we've been in the UEFA Cup, what, 10 seasons in the 21st century, and we've never gotten further than a QF.

In that time, not only have United and Chelsea won it, and Liverpool and Arsenal both got to the final, but Fulham, Middlesbrough, Leicester, Rangers and West Ham have all gone further than us.

It's worth mentioning that no teams drop into it from the CL next year though, which I think would change things.

Literally the very last time we were in it we had a manager that took it incredibly seriously (Jose).

We played our first 11 and still got bombed out by Zagreb whilst their manager was in prison.
But we were a better team than Zagreb. A defeat doesn't change that.
No one's saying we're guaranteed to win it if we give it a proper go, but if we're in it, we have a chance to win it and we'll be among the favourites to do so.
