Just a few weeks away from this starting (20 July) with the hosts being Australia and New Zealand. It will be the first WWC to have 32 teams so expect some one sided group stage matches.

Outside of football the biggest stories of interest is the increase in prize pool (from $30M to $110M USD) and FIFA banning the OneLove armband (obviously we can't make it appear it was only banned because of Qatar...). Also the refs will use a microphone to explain VAR decisions.

As for the actual footie, England are down several players from the Euros because of long term injuries and a couple of retirements so it'll be very interesting to see how they get on.

Spain will have Alexia Putellas back which should make a huge difference.

And Norway will hopefully not lose 8-0 to England this time... got some of the best attackers in the world but the defence is still a sieve.

Looking forward to this and wouldn't be surprised if England struggle a bit.

Are USA just expected to wipe the floor with everyone, and we have to put up with them being insufferable again? Some of those teams look like they're just making up the numbers.

We might well get a cricket score or two in the group stage but the knockouts should be quite competitive.

USA, France, Spain, Germany, England, Sweden are all strong teams. Brazil and Japan have been good in the past but I'm not sure where they stand atm. Norway have probably the best front line in the world but one of the weakest defences.

But USA certainly aren't expected to wipe the floor this time, they are one of the favourites but will face tough tests after the group stage.

The top Euro sides have made significant progress catching up to the US. They could win it or could go out in the QF.

I just saw the news piece on skysports about the pay dispute. Still not sure what the issue is. Anyone with an easier explanation?

For which side? The only one I've heard recently is South Africa.

NZ have been absolute dog shit for the last 2 years.

this is a completely different team. If we can see this game out it’ll the greatest success we’ve ever had at the senior level men or women.

Reiten, Maanum, Graham Hansen, Hegerberg. Dominant attacking players for their club sides but it doesn't click internationally.

And the defence isn't up to standard either.

The host nations doing well is always a good sign for a tournament. Sam Kerr missing out with injury in Australia's first game is a big blow.
