Shame he has to do it so publicly but good gesture nonetheless.

I am not sure how you can give money to the public...not in public. I'm pretty sure any time he goes home hes followed around by the media and so im not sure the pictures are his idea or doing.

I didn't mean in terms of being "papped" doing it but why did he have to form a queue of poor people and hand out individual notes from the wedge that's in his hand? Presumably because he wanted to be seen doing it.

Very tacky if you ask me. A publicity stunt to boost his ego and nothing more. Bloody standing there with a huge gold chain on dishing out money to poor people who are waiting patiently. Fucking patronizing. I expect he has a ton of security just out of shot to stop him being robbed blind.

Uh apart from the fact he is a star in Togo, why wouldn't he also want to give people the chance to meet him as well?! Plus at least you know the money is going to those you want it to and not to a blind organisation who keep the vast chunk of it or governments. That happens frequently in Africa.

Its not a stunt, its him doing something nice and Ade always does a lot of charitable work back home. This is one thing he simply cannot be accused of... His performances on the pitch, go for it... But this? Sorry... Cut the guy some slack.

The guy is giving money to people who need it most yet still attracts criticism from mindless fans who believe he goes home and counts his money whilst laughing at all the Spurs fans who slag him off.

Unbelievable.

It's great to see a footballer support others in need like this, however if the kids are receiving a penny for each goal scored... it's not going to amount to much ;)

Do you think the people he's giving the money to care if it's a publicity stunt. Even if it is a publicity stunt to boost his ego, that's beside the point, he's helping people. That's all that matters, everything else is unimportant.

Fucking 'ell, sometimes these people can't win can they. I bet the people moaning about him giving money away are the first to moan about how much footballers earn?! Good on Adebayor for doing this, I wish more footballers did their bit for their communities.

For the record I'm one of the Adebayor "supporters" on this forum (probably easily deduced by my posting history) but I just don't like the way it was done. If David Cameron stood atop downing street throwing fivers at beggars what sort of reaction would he get?

To back up what someone else has said I remember Ade coming out and saying the reason he demands such high income is because he gives half away which is incredibly admirable. Got to respect him for that, I just don't like the imagery of the above photo.

I suppose he should bulldoze the schools and hospitals he's helped build too. They're pretty public.

Seeing as how it's just a picture with no explanation i don't see how anyone can slag him off. It's totally out of context. There's nothing to suggest it's his own money or where it's come from. It could be the orphanage managers who insisted it was done outside for logistical reasons, there could be any number of factors involved that we're not aware of.

In england famous people help out in soup kitchens etc giving handouts to the homeless and poor. Who's to say he's not helping out in that way? You can't really judge what's going on in a third world country by standards in our own. Yes he's a very rich footballer who has been lucky in escaping the crippling poverty he most likely would have grown up in. Fair play to him for keeping strong ties with his own country and helping out where and when he can. It's hardly a daily mirror pap that has taken the photo is it?
