Bastoni signing for us for sure will be replicate our defend abilities during prime alderweireld-vertonghen or better. And we also got Dier between them. Not need to worry at all IMHO if we even want to change into 4 defender. Really can brought stability to the our defend. 23yo and 24yo. Easily atleast 5-6 years stability. 51m IMO really a steal if we really pursue him to the end.

Inter fan here, I think this deal has a good chance of going through.

However, while I love the player and would support him should he move, I'm not convinced Bastoni will succeed in England. He plays in a very Italian manner and I think Serie A compliments him perfectly while England may expose some weaknesses. Despite his size he's also pretty soft for a center back. He needs to be much nastier. Off the pitch, he's also very much an Italian boy through and through. Based on my experiences following Italian players over the past decades I think there's a good chance he might be the type to have trouble adapting to life in England.

I don't want to come across as salty because we're losing an immense prospect but this is my honest view on the player. Like I said, should he join Spurs I'll be supporting him.

I know this is the Bastoni thread but I just want to say that I suspect you'll be linked to yet another one of our players in de Vrij (if you haven't been already). I'm very confident in that. I suspect there will be Man Utd speculation too.

de Vrij has a year left on his contract and Inter do not want to extend him. In fact, he's coming off easily the worst season in his Inter career but I believe it's due to the contract situation (we initially began talks to renew then withdrew). I also believe that there's still an excellent player there, IMO significantly better than Dier. Sometimes you see a player struggle and you just know they need a change of scenery and a fresh start. That's how I feel about Stefan. The club has not handled his extension well at all and coming off a poor season, he would be available at a lower price than normal.

His replacement in Bremer is nearly secured too and from what I've seen of Dier and Davies, I think you guys need a middle CB far more than an LCB. I think de Vrij represents an excellent opportunity for Conte and I expect him to request the player.

Thank you for the excellent write up - it is much appreciated. I dont know if its just me or whenever this happens my first thought is always "Oh hi there Romario."

Thanks for your comment...

On Bastoni being soft...well, the guy he will replace (if we sign) at LCB is 'Gentle Ben'....another 'soft' CB. ;)

Romero will be the dog aggressive CB, Bastoni could be the cat passive CB and Dier can do both - so it should be a good mix of back3 IMO

Although we do need a central centre back I would say left centre back is more important. Dier has been an excellent leader for us this season, we only really need another experienced head for when he needs to rest. For left centre back Davies has also been great this season but while he defends well he's very limited going forward. I think the dynamic player Bastoni is would prove a lot more vital to us. For me a left centre back is one for the first team just as Romero was at right centre back (with Davies and Sanchez very reliable backup and competition). A central centre back is more a back up requirement.

Appreciate your feeback and really hopeful we get this one over the line.

Don't worry about him being soft. Romero has enough "nasty" for the entire back line.

The thought of two of them walking a tightrope every game is something I could do without.

Gooner friend trying his hardest to play down the Bastoni and Perisic signings on whatsapp, suffice to say he's a bit worried, although of course he'll never admit to that haha

I’d argue WB’s are more of a priority over both of them

Agreed, but we're addressing LWB at the moment, Bastoni is a deal you don't hang around with, he's highly sort after and clearly Conte's no 1 pick so you get the deal done as quickly as possible.

Does the big injection of 150m smackers all arrive in one go? If so, would our bid and payment for Bastoni be paid upfront?

I’d imagine 50mill all in one chunk would appeal to a cash strapped Inter way more than 60mill over 4-5yrs?

Maybe not, but curious to know.

It's all available to be taken as and when needed. Doesn't need to be taken all at once - can be taken in tranches.

Davies has definitely found his home at LCB. A renaissance for the later stages of his career. He is not mobile enough to play LWB in the modern game.

he’s looked a better LCB than he ever did a LB imo.
