Personally if that is how it plays out I think our attacking line won’t be strong enough. Kane is far and away our best player and his loss will be felt greatly. As exciting a prospect as Orban is he is still extremely raw. Personally if we are loosing a world class forward we should be looking to bring in another very talented attacker to replace him who will be able to hit the ground running to some degree. Those don’t come cheap. If Orban is £20-30m and then we put the rest on this guy that is the Kane money gone but a good striker and CB for the future isn’t a bad deal. This guy does seem like a superstar CB, be certainly an interesting signing.
Now obviously Silva looks to be an extremely talented young defender and obviously it would be great to have him but after spending €47/50 mil on VDV and with Romero do we really need to be spending what I would expect to be near €60 mil if not a good bit more on a third defender. It’s a tricky one as our defence has obviously needed strengthening for a while and with VDV, Romero and Silva we would have incredible options but especially without European football we would need to bench one of them.
I guess there is the argument that VDV could fill in a lot at LB (although for me he is still lacking the ball playing ability to comfortably invert and sit in CM) and Romero obviously has injury issues. But even so, considering the big loss of Harry I do wonder if it wouldn’t be better to go big on an attack and then bring in a cheaper defender with promise.
As I said, Silva looks to be a fantastic player and I certainly would be happy to have him in our ranks. Maybe we think this is our only chance to get him and I can see that making a lot of sense. It’s just hard to ignore the gaping hole Kane will be leaving.
