His attacking output doesn’t sound amazing (6 goals and 4 assists in 2294 mins) but he’s tracking pretty well when you compare him to similar talents at the same age in the Belgian league, such as Doku (6 goals and 7 assists in 2202 mins) and Openda (5 goals and 4 assists in 1512 mins as a CF). He’s also played under 5 different coaches since he’s been at Bruges, so within that context those are very decent numbers.

However, Doku and Openda both subsequently had stepping stone moves - and those weren’t entirely smooth sailing - so it goes to show what a long way there is to go for Nusa and why the priority has to be game time. Realistically he’s going to be at least 18 months away from being able to make an impact for us, so I’d rather he stays at Bruges for the time being to continue his development. Potentially we look for a loan next season as well somewhere like the Eredivisie or Ligue 1.

Great coup for the club if it happens but let’s temper our expectations.

Yes, there are cases such as Doku and Openda, but, and its a big but, there is equal potential merit for bringing him in now and having plenty of time to settle, integrate and get some minutes here and there in preparation for higher expectations next season, as opposed to staying a few extra months gaining consistent minutes for Bruges.

We have no idea how Ange’s coaching and training alongside and against the likes of Son, Romero, VdV, Udogie, Benny etc would affect his development.

Entirely possible his development accelerates massively especially if he has a good attitude and work ethic.

I really struggle to see PEH leaving this window, I just don't see anyone getting him but if we somehow manage to get Nusa, move PEH and get a replacement then yeah it would probably be the best jan window i can remember.

I'm not sure we would need to do much in the summer either. Maybe 1 centre back or left back and centre midfielder. A forward depending how Richarlison and Werner do the rest of the season. 2nd keeper maybe and possibly a 10. Then just keep picking up these young prospects. That leaves us close to what the top teams do where you just need 2 or 3 signings a year to freshen the squad (although you may just promote youth instead). The rebuild is essentially done.

Brugge play Westerlo tomorrow at 7.45 pm. Be interesting to see if he makes the starting 11. No reason he wouldn't unless something is close which it realistically probably won't be. And for any peeps interested incase he starts it will be televised on DZAN France as well as some Belgian channels.

If he’s going back on loan there I see no reason why a transfer would impact him playing.

Ah for sure. When you were quoting £100-300m wiggle room I thought you might be suggesting that should be our budget for the window! I'm all for exploiting opportunities if they are there, although I suppose the flip side is that there will always be another Nusa or Vermeeren or whoever. Plus the risk of the hype not being met (e.g. Orban) but I guess that's just the way it goes.

This summer will be interesting still. If my understanding of FFP is correct, it's not like clubs just have to make it past 30th June and then get a brand new bank roll. Wages are ongoing... contract amortisation is ongoing... a club struggling with those factors now will still have them on the books in summer. I do take your point about our advantage probably weighing heavier right now, but I'm hopeful it remains this summer too - particularly after we win the double!

I consider a rebuild where you're making fundamental changes and bringing players who match the vision of the coaches. I think we've come a long way in that process. Even to a point where some signings we made under the past regime actually have fit well with Ange. We've come a long way building a squad who all fit what Ange wants. Nuso is another cog that fits into place. So I agree we need to continue to refresh and reshape the squad. However I would consider it more maintaining the squad going forward rather than a full rebuild. If we do it right we shouldn't need to do a rebuild in future. We just need to replace a few players each season and keep the process going. It's only been a rebuild because the squad got out of sorts and we had no philosophy so the players didn't all fit a certain way.
