I love how arsenal fans seem to be saying how they passed up on Bissouma like he would actually have considered going there lol…

I always knew he was shite. Makes a couple of decent saves here and there but does so in such a dramatic fashion as to make them look like worldies.
Was it after Allison made the balls up against us, loads of Gooners were going on about how Ramsdale would never make a mistake like that - ignoring that he probably wouldn't have even got close enough to Son to mess it up in the first place.

The great thing about contemporary Arsenal fans (in their huge social media universe at least) is that so many of them appear to be stans rather than fans - obsessively repeating how great everything is even when the truth is shown to them.

That delusion appears to include the mindless overrating of players (and managers) who aren't really good enough for that club (pains me to say it, but it's true given their history). But long may it continue as the results of this are good for us - Arteta would have been hounded out of any big club having spent as much as he has for the return he's given them.

this is kinda where i feel our transfer strategy was a year or two ago.

likee ahhhh no way - we tried our best but a proven hot talent ala Nkuku has picked a champions league team that's also won the league. we tried, we tried, but [insert club] can simply pay Mbappe more than us.

Like....no way those players go to arsenal. If they're trying, it will be a one in a million home run or certain failure.

or it will be a player the big teams sniff around, but ultimately they pay over the odds for ala Pepe or nDombele (wages).

There seems to be this belief that they are better off having good young players than better ones in their prime. A lot can change in football in 2-3 years. For example if they miss top 4 again this season they may well lose the likes of Saka and Martinelli who they are pinning so much hope on. No point celebrating a squad that may peak in 3-4 years if they don't even make it there together.

Lloris only likely has 1-2 years left but he is levels above Ramsdale. Ramsdale might reach Hugo's level but it's entirely possible we just go out and sign a good new keeper when Lloris leaves anyway.

Been thinking this a lot about their online fanbase lately. The baseline levels of delusion (incredibly high) and intelligence (incredibly low) are astonishing.

You can say that much about most online fanbases, particularly if Twitter and Youtube are your main sources.

But even then Arsenal fans manage to stand out.

The way they pull the wool over their fans and they can't see it is astounding.

AFTV really buy into too. That's why that Lee Gunner bloke is right on.

Like they have a serious chance of getting Nkunku or Osimhen!!

AFTV regurgitate it and their masses eat it up.

Luckily, because Levy has been so reluctant to spend big on names like this in the past I think the majority of our fan base have been skeptical with these sort of big money big player links.

Ozil/Sanchez/Auba and Partey were pretty big coups for them, players still in their prime with big reputations

Maybe the delusion is stronger among fans of clubs that have seen success in the recent past, we don't really have that.

Even if you account for him playing a ton and show per 90 minutes, he was still very poor.

Exactly this. If the young talent doesn't stay, then they won't step on. I think there is a balance to developing potential and signing established players.

I think the two big things that will work against them is lack of money from player sales, as a lot of players are leaving at end of their contract and then they have yet another season of no champions League.

It will also be interesting to see how they tackle squad depth as well with Thursday night football.

There's a lot of discord among Arsenal fans at the moment. It's a bit like the "Wenger In" vs "Wenger Out" debate 10 years ago, albeit with a much shittier team and manager.

There's one camp that thinks Arteta is a fraud and has been given far too much power and backing given his inexperience and limitations. They want to cut their losses and bring in someone with real pedigree ASAP before things get worse under Arteta.

Then there's the "artetasexual" camp that views him a bit like we viewed early Pochettino. A good young manager flushing the dressing room of bad influences and gradually building a young team that can challenge. Some of these fans - the most extreme being Ty of course - are the ones you're talking about. They can't accept any criticism and double down on how great they are in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

Not sure if it's an Arsenal fan thing or just football fans in general. Every fanbase has its fair share of deluded fools including our own, so maybe it's not unique to them at all. Or maybe it's cos they were spoiled by growing up through Arsenal's success in the early 2000s and now they're forced to rationalise their fall from grace by lying to themselves, rather than accepting they're just a bit rubbish?

No idea tbh, but it sure is entertaining to watch.

AFTV evening show now a habit. They’ve literally spent an hour arguing about Bissouma. Geeky guy reckons Partey/Tielemens is it. Imo with Odegaard in front that will get ripped to pieces by good teams, so lightweight. Robbie isn’t happy ?
