When you can't get players to come otherwise, you call Jorge Mendes to force them in.

He also had development in Bosnia and Croatia which I'd imagine are much more physical leagues than Portugal. That was part of what made him so unique.
Yeah, I remember reading that playing in those leagues as a youngster really toughened him up, he would literally have chunks kicked out of him every game.
Made him a lot tougher and stronger than he looked.

Do get this signing at all. ESR can’t even get in the team. And this guy is definitely to light weight to play in 2 CM. Really odd signing maybe ESR is going.

Yeah does seem a but odd.

Don't know a thing about the guy beyond what others have said but sounds like he's a very talented player.

Given they barely even have a proper DM as it is, though, seems odd to sign another diminutive playmaker-type. Like is the plan to rotate him with Odegaard or are they signing him instead of Tielemans to play in the 8 role?

Either way hopefully he doesn't adapt to the league and is another shit signing to add to their growing piles of turds.

Modric really was a special case. His low centre of gravity meant that even if he had a big physical player pressing him, he could wriggle away. He could literally find a way out when it didn't seem possible.

A lot of highly technical players have come to the PL and simply struggled because the physicality denies them time and space they were used to. They get hit or a player on them immediately and can't find a way out, they then get bullied off the ball.

Gil is a better example because he's a similar build and left-footed. Gil looked great in Spain and the Olympics but as soon as he was thrown into the PL he looked years away from being ready because the physicality is a different level.
Modric was a special case because he went on to be the best midfielder in the world.

I was wondering if Mendes was involved in this. Seems a big fee. Got to wonder who else arsenal will get in the future to balance that off.

10 minutes in absolute gold. Classic Lee judges rant with the pointing hand ?

Gets even better youth project 3.0 ?

Lee has trust issues

Both brutal in their assessment of where they are and still deluded about where we are

They do need to thicken their squad to cope with the Europa. Could also be a contingency plan for if Saka leaves in a year or two.

I have a feeling its an opportunistic signing as it seems the player was being offered around to a lot of clubs.

Mendes is moving early to get as much of that sweet PL dollar before it runs out. Not as much going around on the mainland.

Yeah reminds me a little bit of us signing Gil last summer. Young talented player who surprisingly becomes available so we jump in despite not really having an obvious spot for him in the team. The Porto fans are sad to see him go, but he was only really a squad player for them last season. Playing CM in the Prem is a very big step up.

He could end up doing very well for them, but given they (presumably) have a limited budget, was this a high priority position for them? Like...how many small technical AMs do you need? City get away with it cos of Pep and having players like Rodri and Walker's insane recovery pace to bail them out defensively. Arsenal have an injury prone Partey, Xhaka and Elneny...

Basically trying to tell myself he'll be rubbish so who the hell knows. But strikes me as more of an educated punt (a bit like Spence) whereas I fully expect Perisic and Bissouma will hit the ground running.

So Arteta is going for the method of "if we have the ball then we don't need to defend".

It could work, but we saw how easily the wheels came off without strong leadership there to steady the ship. I think Viera looks like a cracking player but they are again looking like they are stacking their attack whilst neglecting their defence.

I also find it funny that we can objectively look at their transfer dealings, whilst us signing Bissouma instantly turned him into a shit player according to their fans.

I just hope they keep clinging to the project.

Palace away first game of the season, hoping for a bloodbath, Palace fans can turn it on when they want to.

Tielemans and Jesus are decent players - but they're typical Arsenal signings who are easy on the eye but can also go missing.

If they are their two biggest transfers then I'm not worried.
I'd go even further with this, for me tielemans is massively overrated. I'd be pissed right off if spurs were signing him.

Jesus is better, but what is he? he's not clinical enough to be a top class centre forward, not creative enough to be a winger. He is a bit of a nothing player imo. If you were playing arsenal and they had Jesus as the lone front man, would you be even the slightest bit worried?

Also for those two players arsenal would have to pay an absolute premium.... 100m+ for them both, that would be an outrageous waste of money.

I'm confident we'll be better than Arsenal this season, but they are making some good signings.
I've been running my mouth hard on twitter, so could be in for a real beating if we aren't.
Try running away hard from Twitter, great solution.
