Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has split from his wife, Annie, according to reports.

The 65-year-old has filed papers in his hometown of Strasbourg, France, according to the Daily Mirror, with the couple reported to have agreed a financial package on how to divide their assests.

The papers show that the pair, who married in 2010 after a long time relationship, have not been together since June of this year.

Wenger has an 18-year-old daughter with Annie, 59, but there has been long speculation about the state of the marriage, with the couple not pictured together since 2013.

The Frenchman has previously admitted that the pressure of his job has put pressure on his relationship.

The "separe du corps" that has been signed is not a full divorce but a legal separation.

"Ten years ago I said to my wife [Annie], 'Five more years and that’s all', and I am still here," Wenger said in 2008.

"It is difficult to find time to see them but there are jobs [which are worse]. You have guys who leave for work on Monday and come back on Friday.

"In my job I travel, but the problem is not so much the quantity of time you spend with your family, it is the quality.

A spokesman for Arsenal told the Mirror: "He is an employee and we do not talk about employees’ personal issues."

Shame. Never really hated Wenger despite his occasional blind eye. Football is only a game.

I hope John Terry doesn't try and console her.

Was going to say that it was a shame and that it was understandable what with managers having to devote so much time to their job but when I took a tiny look it appears that old Arsene has been a bit of a naughty boy over the years.

LINK This is his erm 39-yr old mistress (not his wife)

So what first attracted you to multi millionaire Arsene Wenger?

Sad to see this - I doubt he lifestyle is conducive to married life. His first love is Arsenal FC.
I like the guy from a football point of view and thats the person most only know. But it is sad for all concerned.

Agreed with everyone above. Hopefully everyone can move on from this at least. I await the hilarious Wenger is a pedo memes. He is one-eyed to a fault and I have seethed with a rage that was personally unhealthy at time in the past but honestly, he seems a decent kind of person. Not perfect but who is. He seems too decent to be involved in this game, that's for sure.

Sorry to hear that. A friend is going through the same thing at the moment. A more devoted dad you couldn't imagine. He's a shell of his former self.

27 years divorced. Still pissed off. Long story. Much too long.

Wenger was quoted as saying:

"I'd hoped that the two sides could be brought together, but no matter how hard I tried, it just proved impossible"

Edit: Oops, my bad, it appears that quote was about his coat...

Surprised at the amount of sympathy and the lack (so far) of quips.

Always sad when a marriage breaks up but not surprising really living apart so much. I hope the daughter isn't suffering too much over the break-up. People forget how much it hurts the kids. Even at 18, she will no doubt be very unhappy about it.

This is going to sound callous but the opposite happened to me. Got everything including the kids full time. Bloody hard.
Sometimes i wish was the weekend dad. Thank god for my mum who helps me out alot. Wouldn't change it, and do appreciate it, but it's so much harder than just looking after yourself. Grass is always greener

Shit thing to go through, I've just split with my missus and we have a 2.5 year old daughter. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

As everyone seems to be feeling sympathetic to him, maybe now's a good time to say I actually have a fair amount of respect for him :nailbiting: Yes he's the enemy, and yes he can whine to unprecedented amounts, but you can't mock what he's achieved and he goes about football the right way, there are certainly worse characters out there.

Perhaps I should have said that in the amnesty thread

Sorry for you guys (and girls) going through the pain of a break-up. All you can do is pick up the pieces, one by one, and not forget that life is short and make the best of it. It can get better and sometimes it does.

The man clearly loves the sport and the team he manages, to the point he has lost his wife and probably some closeness with his daughter. He will probably retire and regret what he has lost at some point.

Refreshing to see some level headed posts about Wenger rather than the poisonous ones that I imagine twatbook and twatter are full of.
