TOTTENHAM are aiming to pull off a stunning £25million swoop for Belgium’s teenage sensation Arthur Vermeeren in January.

The Royal Antwerp midfielder is only 18 but played a huge role in leading the club to a first Pro League title in 66 years last term.

Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea have all sent scouts to watch Vermeeren play this season.

He is also attracting the attention of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

But Spurs have leapt to the front of the queue as they fancy a deal similar to the one which brought Destiny Udogie to North London 18 months ago.

Spurs paid a large part of the £18m fee up front for left-back Udogie — then loaned him back to Italian side Udinese.

It's only the Sun so has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

If that is the 4 clubs interested then he likely chooses Barca or Bayern if he wants big money and believes he can be that extraordinary player who makes it at the elite from a very young age.

Dortmund is a great side to get playing time and they often agree to release clauses for the player to leave once he gets to a certain level.

With us, if the loan option is true, then he'll stay there for the rest of the season and possibly join us in the summer to join as in the 1st 4 choices for the CM spot.

Given how well Sarr and Udogie have done for this season, he might think we're a good option to get playing time and perform in a top league.

For no real reason I've dismissed Arsenal and Chelsea from the discussion.

A loan back is definitely not desirable.

Besides the fact we need CMs now, if he joins now he’ll be U21 eligible for Europe in 24 months and so effectively club trained.

Then becomes a club trained over 21 player after 36 months.

If he joins in June he’ll be 19 when the window opens and so stays an overseas player.

We paid a £15-20m premium for Brennan Johnson who is only association trained, and not club trained.

Worth paying by a little more to get him now.

He dominated Barcelona, he can cope with mid/lower table PL teams.

Thanks, I find it hard to keep up with the club trained quotas.

If we buy him now but loan him straight back does that effect his eligibility or club trained status?

For Europe, unfortunately no it makes no difference to loan back. He’d stay overseas trained for UEFA competitions.

For PL he’d be PL homegrown. But we’d still have to leave him or someone out of the Europe squad. So it’s not really that useful.

Same with Sarr and Saliba at Arsenal

I did read that they would require him to return to the club for the remainder of the season?

Apart from the obvious reason, it’s also fair to exclude chelsea from the conversation due the fact they signed 4 young defensive midfielders in the last 12 months

Stockpiling players has never stopped them from more stockpiling before.

ITK has linked us with Nusa and Media linked us with Vermeeren, Bardghji and Muzambo previously. All are 18 years old.

Herc: "Nusa is one of the 18 year olds."

Very happy with this approach from the club.

Yep, this is how we struck gold with Sarr and Udogie. Get them early and try and develop. Some won't work out, but the ones that do will easily make up for the outlay for the ones that don't.

What type of midfielder is he exactly? CM? DM? Seen his name in the Nusa thread just now.
