29 appearances this season, 14 goals. Going at a rate on 1 in 2 in the league and has something like 8 in the last 11 games (?), all of which from midfield. He's moved further inside and looks class. There's no doubting now that he is lethal down the middle. The problem is however that if he's meant to be on the left, we will find BAE horribly exposed when we come up against top teams. I think he should therefore be started centrally like he was today.

Defoe is out and Dempsey has been ok but relatively quiet. Surely now is the time to see if we've found our own Henry/Torres quality striker. He's got everything you need from a striker. Unbelievably fast, great finisher, good in the air, awesome shot from outside the box, can take on and beat anyone.

We can play Siggurdson out on the right who will give a goal threat and will enable Walker to bomb on and give us width there. Lennon can move across to the right where he can cut in and run directly at what will be very scared centre backs. BAE is not as attacking as Walker so it suits him to keep a fast winger in front. Bale would drift out wide regularly anyway so we won't be totally without width on the left. Our new superstar Holtby can play behind Bale and run the show or do a similar job in a midfield 3 with Dembele and Parker.

I think that Dempsey/Holtby/Sigurdsson will all improve their games playing off Adebayor as he doesn't have tunnel vision like Defoe, so no need for Bale up front.

Have you seen Cristiano Ronaldo play as a striker for Real Madrid and Portugal? He's a completely different player and not in a good way.

When Ronaldo fills in as a striker he goes missing for large parts of the game because naturally he isn't a striker, he misses playing from the left and doesn't have the same space to operate in. What usually happens on the odd occasion that he manages to find space (drop deep or drift out wide) and get the ball, is that it doesn't stick or move onto another team mate because he's frustrated and ends up taking a silly shot as a result.

Thinking out loud players like, Ronaldo, Schurrle and Mueller are wide forwards that can also fill in upfront but compared to someone like Walcott it doesn't come naturally to them and it ends up having a negative impact on the team.

The way things are going he could be centre of a front 3 for us, would that be a bad thing ?

No. I don't even think he should be in the centre, really want to see him on the right for us.

Not necessarily, but we'd need the right two people up along with him.

Lennon and Townsend/Sig are not those two people. The front 3 would all need to be interchangeable.

The issue's with this team
1 - No Sandro.... school boy error! ;)
2 - we signed Paulinho, cant see him not being in the team.
2 - Siggurdson isnt a winger, he is ok there, but we need better than ok.
3 - we are going into this season with more strikers than we did last season!
To me with the squad we have just now, it should be -

Loris
Walker Dawson/Kaboul Vertonghen BAE
Dembele Sandro Paulinho
Lennon Bale
Ade
Kaboul if fit would start, and if any of the CM need taken out, we still have Sig, Holtby, Hud, Parker and Livermore. Thought a few of them may leave.

I wonder if will convert him fully this year to lone striker, a la Terry Henry?

If we bought a replacement left winger with some pace (Bernard), we would tear teams apart with Bale on the last man.

..................Bale
...Bernard.............Lennon
.......Sandro..Holtby...Paulinho
BAE...JVT...Kaboul...Walker
............Lloris

The 433 could also free up Holtby for the playmaker role.

This would be the only way I think he will be moved forward more, as just now I dont think we have enough on the wings to alow him to do it all/most the season.

I don't like this anymore than you guys but I'm going to have to give Rich an agree there. Even included Holtby - I like that! If all that happened before now and the end of the TW was us signing Bernard I would be happy. (Not including Parker, Huddlestone, Livermore because if they go then great, if they stay then it's not like our team is getting any worse).

I never wanna see Bale as a striker. His strengths are running into space with the ball at his feet. Playing as strike more often than not he will receive the ball with his back to goal marked tightly by the oppo centre back. He could probably make a fist of it but I feel it wouldn't be a position that utilises his talents fully.
