I expect that Barkley will end up with Arsenal. He wants a move to London, but we won't pay him what he wants. Given that he previously turned down £100k per week with Everton, he's not going to sign for less with us.

Can see us slipping back to 6th or worse this season. It will be easy to blame the backward step on Wembley, but in truth, our approach for this season seems to be based on the expectation that the team will simply play as well as they did last season (and that the others won't improve) - can we really expect a repeat from Alderweireld, Wanyama, Son, Alli, Eriksen and Kane? For most, last season was their best ever and it would be incredibly optimistic to assume a repeat. Even that was only good enough for a distant 2nd to Chelsea (who have gotten better).

If we finish outside the top 3, then I can see the squad breaking up fairly quickly. Eriksen, Dembele, Alli will be sorely tempted to go somewhere else - for more money and a better chance of trophies. But hey, it was great to finish 2nd once, right?

Under Levy and ENIC, Tottenham will always be also-rans. Sure, we'll be OK, but we'll win as many trophies as Southampton or West Ham. Glory?!?! Not under this ownership.

Would you prefer we do a Leeds?

The most annoying thing is that it's all money nowadays. There are 6 teams in the league with much more money than us and even with the stadium we will never have as much as at least 3 of them.

Football as most fans want it is DEAD! It's not coming back. You need to be a lot more positive to get anything from it.

We've been the one team consistently outperforming richer teams in the last 3 years, using a unique set of tactics on and off the field. I find that very exciting and it bonds me to the club like never before. It'll probably all come to nothing and fall apart someday but we've come closer in the last two seasons than anyone expected and it was nice to dream for a while.

This ownership is responsible for it and I'm grateful. The jobs still a work in progress....

Why does anyone who suggests that we spend a little rather than the tedious saga of our transfer policy, always get this Leeds treatment.
It's a fucking nonsense and I don't know why it keeps coming up, we are not going out of business mate so please stop banging on about it.

What a pointless article, founded on nothing but conjecture. The way I see it is, Barkley has seen, and heard from the Spurs boys in the England camp, how Poch will improve him as a player and that is the sole reason for him wanting to join us, he realises he's going nowhere at Everton and the money aspect is irrelevant. I know it's The Mirror, but just had to say it and the author of this shite obviously thinks he's a master of baiting.

It's simple. It's not a simple "let's spend a little more here or there". It's all connected. You start paying someone like Barkley the biggest money at the club, and suddenly those of biggest loyalty start seeing that this loyalty is not reciprocated. Toby, Kane, Dele, they could be earning AT LEAST twice what they are with us. But they are loyal, as they see a similar loyalty going the other way.
THFC is not only a football club. It is an employer and a bloody good and fair one. That is why buying marquee signings simply doesn't work with us. It rocks the boat too much. We are walking a very tight line with the wage structure. Very tight.

Mate we are a well run club no question and a big well done to those concerned, but if you think these players will stay out of loyalty you are living in the 1950s.
If one of our players is offered double or triple his wages then it makes him twitchy to say the least which you or I would be also.
But this notion that we can't pay this or that because we will go under is nonsense with the TV money each year getting bigger and bigger, we are well run but at the same time are not paupers so let's not act like we are.

I personally feel Barkley would do more harm than good. Our options for the 3 attackers behind Kane are sufficient. Alli, Son, Lamela, Eriksen, Onomah. Barkley with his high wage demands will just end up causing more problems. I'd prefer to bring in young raw talent than self-entitled good for nothing egotistical garbage.

It also seems that fans think we are going to crumble this season. Good lord, if we don't back our boys who is? It's pretty disgusting, we lose one friendly and suddenly people are talking about us finishing 6th? I still feel our team is among the most balanced in the league. Our strength is our unity and belief. Without that we may as well be Oil - Money club.

Paying players between 60-100k a week is behaving like paupers? Mate, must be tough to find work when you're you.

An approach that this young maturing team can improve on the average start we had last season isnt unreasonable.

But the spend a little hasnt really improved us in the past. In fact up until recent years havent we spent as much as Arsenal and havent had the success?

No mate, before that.
Right you are referring to the Irving scholar days when he over committed and we nearly went bust.
Well that isn't going to happen under levy is it I mean he wouldn't bang his Mrs twice in a day just in case in put too much pressure on the springs.

I also dont know what they really need £200k per week for. I mean, lifestyle, how much better off are they going to be? £100k per week - they will earn more in 1 month than an average person will earn in 12 years. No mortgage or car note. In LESS than 1 year, they'll have earned more than the rest of us will have in our entire life! That leaves them at least 5+ years to buy lots of nice things and save for the future.

You are right, let's stop thinking of our club as being 'bad' payers. IMO, we pay them far too much. I don't care that some think that in today's world our players are paupers. It's absolutely disgusting, vile the money they earn for kicking a ball. It's us fans that help pay for their luxurious lifestyles, then they turn their backs on us because they are being financially abused.

If I didn't love my Spurs so much, I'd quite football. Tottenham, at least are trying to grow organically, but we get mocked by the media and others and not taken seriously. Sad state of affairs.

In the current marketplace? Yes.
No, it's a question of PROPER SCOUTING. There are gems out there, and for peanuts too. You just have to find them. When we got Berba, we paid him 22k a week, and this was an amount he agreed to. When VDV came, he wasn't on 200k, was he. Modric, same thing.
My point is, you can fidn world class players for cheap. Just mould them, not take the easy route of getting the ready product.
Man utd created a generation of winners. So effectively, they had their best team (possibly ever) practically for FREE.
