I don't think it's about him being a liability on the pitch. Let's face it, Walker has more fluff ups at the back. I think it's Benny's attitude towards football. AVB is a man who adores football so much that, despite never being able to make it as a player, gave his all to do so as a manager. BAE is the opposite. He has the talent to be a footballer, and a very good one at that, playing Premiership football for a good club. However, he doesn't care for the game and has no real passion for it. I admire his honesty but can see why it would infuriate AVB.
I hope this isn't the reason. It's not AVB's go to get rid of a player because he doesn't love the game.

Always a tad overrated by our fan base due to the fact he gave good interviews and was funny on twitter. Had really regressed as a player in the last year and not much between him and Rose tbh. We will be fine.

Rose has a lot of improving to do - but now he has his chance to.

Was gutted about Benny leaving - when his mind is on it he's one of the best left backs in the Prem. He's better than Rose defensively even when his mind isn't on it to be honest!

But anyway, embracing our new left back lineup and will support Rose fully. Really hope he takes the opportunity to learn, improve and realise his potential.

We will be fine if Rose doesn't get injured, suspended or suffer from poor form.

The problem is that he doesn't have any proper cover or competition.

Personally i think BAE is a better LB compared to Rose......but i think Rose will improve leaps and bounds this season. He might even be in consideration for the England squad at WC 2014, if England qualifies eventually.

Why i think Rose will improve? If you see last season, the LB was intermittently the position of Naughton, Vert and BAE. This was due mainly to BAE injuries and his unavailability. Naughton was the emergency LB for many games. AVB played Vert there at times due both to tactical and BAE's form (or lack of it) after coming back from injuries. Whereas, Walker has most of the RB position his, even though some games he played atrociously. Due to this, Personally i feel, AVB will not change much for LB position this season unless, it is very much a tactical issue that needs to be addressed urgently and to give Rose a rest.

If both Rose and Walker are given a steady run of games, in 2 years, i believe Rose will be a better fullback than Walker will be. Rose have better focus throughout the game, while Walker has the usual one nightmare every other game. Technically Rose is a better player than Walker. On top of that Rose has a more natural game going forward as he was a Winger. But anyway, im going to get behind them both and hope both improve over time and be a top 1-2 in their position in BPL for years to come. COYS!!!

I love BAE and very sad to see him go but it sounds like his fitness was an issue if he did fail a medical and maybe he did need surgery on his knee after all.

I think people are forgetting about Fryers as well. He may be young and vastly inexperienced but he's been given Europa League runouts and if he doesn't go out on loan to a championship club he could well be figuring more highly in AVB's plans. If we really wanted a recognised LB I'm sure we could have got one but it doesn't sound like we tried too hard unless it was a big jump in quality like Coentrao or Baines.

Watch him get loaned out to Doncaster this week now I've said that...

Benny is technically a superb footballer, but I don't think he has the mentality to make the most of out of his talent. Rose is nowhere near as good a footballer, but he plays with much more intensity and I think AVB likes that.

whatever we think (and i love bae although wasn't same last season), its clear avb doesn't see him in the team this season and would be behind rose and probably naughton for lb. so if he wasn't in avbs plans why not go on loan rather than not be used. not sure how suited he is to championship rough and tumble though.

avb clearly wants versatile players for defence rather than a larger squad, and clearly feels that is enough to cover all competitions.
one specialist rb - walker
one specialist lb - rose
one specialist cb - Dawson
two cb that can play rb - kaboul & chiriches
one cb that can play lb - vertonghen
one rb that can play lb - naughton
one (young) lb that can play cb - fryers

Add to that one DM that can play CB - Capoue

I think this is it. That and the fact that Ekotto wasn't a a brilliant defender or that great going forward.

Surprised there weren't more takers for the third best LB in the EPL ?

Wow, that's an interesting read but very confused.

And seems pretty spot on to, all the players in the "not good" or worse category got shipped out cept for Gylfi and Friedel (and neither of those gonna see much PL action this season).

Hear harry on talkshite yesterday saying he has to ensure Benny and Barton are on the same teams for 5 a sides. Benny apparently has a very short fuse and is also pretty tough!
