Tough one to call. Obviously the teams were evenly matched last season and we're away, so Brentford start as favourites. Their physical dominance is also something we'll likely to struggle to deal with, plus of course we're now choosing between Son in an unfamiliar role or a very out-of-form Richarlison rather than the best striker in the world. Our manager is a big upgrade, but often makes a slow start while he implements his ideas, even without this level of disruption in his first pre-season. On the flip side though, Brentford have lost two key players in Toney and Raya, and need to adapt a bit themselves. I'll go for a score draw and a valuable away point early on in the race for Europe. Excited for the start of a new system and a new approach.

Big game for us today, a new philosophy and life without Kane.

Let's hope we step up.

Genuinely misread this as "Let's hope we stay up" at first. The subtle lowering of expectations. [EDIT: Glad I'm not the only one haha]

So excited for today's match, I don't think I've ever known a Spurs game with such a broad range of possibilities. Wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if we battered them, and would be even less surprised if they battered us. A high scoring draw feels like a good possibility.

I hope Son starts upfront and Perisic plays on the left. I feel we need Perisic's assists.

Wont happen though, as Ange will surely start Richie.

The preseason games gave us plenty of hope that this team can compete against mid table opponents. Results will follow if the defense holds up, especially back post coverage. Frank will know this so you would expect a bunch of short-short-long. I prefer Udogie to Davies in this game because Davies Achilles is fast competent players.

on this high holy day for football, there is only 1 thing to say. Coys.

Haven't been this bi polar for a match in a decade. Excited to see how we get on with the new tactics but it will be the first game without Kane.

Very mixed emotions, but I love the rollercoaster ride.

So hard to predict we could win 5-0 or lose 2-4 so many unknowns!

Odd seeing some numbers for players who should go. Lloris still number 1, Reguilon 3, Hojbjerg 5 and Sanchez 6 could all be sold. We could have some strange numbers in the first team this season.

I’m looking forward to the game and the season but I honestly don’t know what to expect. My main worry is Brentford do to us what did they did to UTD last year with Ten Hag trying to implement a new style of play. Frank is a good manager and I expect Brentford to be well drilled and capitalise on our own mistakes. Yet preseason has been promising, Kane will be a huge miss yet oddly I feel like a curtain has been lifted from us and we can just concentrate on what’s ahead without the media trying to sell him/talk about him.

Think I will avoid the match day threads and twitter for some time.

Really looking forward to today's game. It's been such a long time since I've looked forward to us playing.

Our defence today will probably be:

12 17 37 33 :ROFLMAO:

That's some really strange numbers for the first-choice players.

VICARIO
ROYAL - ROMERO - DIER - DESTINY
SARR - BISSOUMA - MADDISON
KULUSEVSKI- SON - PERISIC

Lloris - Van de Ven - Porro - Davies - Hojberg- Skipp - Lo Celso - Solomon - Richarlison
I'd give VDV another week to integrate - and in any case I don't think this is the ideal match for him with aerial ability being a possible weakness against a Brentford team who take good advantage of set pieces. Bring in Dier, who can deal well with these and also provide an experienced head with Viario and Destiny both making debuts this week.

In midfield, Sarr has greatly impressed and deserves a chance to make his mark while Bentancur is out, although it's a close call between him and a reinvigorated Olly Skipp.

Up front, I see Son as much more likely to suceed in the 9 role under Ange's style of football rather than the wide left slot, now the CMs have more responsibility to push forward into the half-spaces he generally runs into. Perisic is a natural for that slot, while Kulu offers us a different option on the right.

I do also love seeing some more promising options on the bench this year, even with a couple of early injuries and hopefully some more signings still to arrive.

COYS!
