Can we afford The Special One?

You may have seen the news stories breaking this morning about how TSO has been spotted in West London with his family, allegedly house-hunting (although he does already have a flat here already, hmmm :duh:).
Needless to say, you are probably now reading the various articles on this subject and submitting your answers to the online polls about which club he will end up at next season, or which one would suit his style best, etc.
If he comes, it's obviously London (or England, lol). A commute from Belgravia to WHL is no big drama. The ultimate question is would he have transfer funds available?
Now I've seen some journo crap that's touched on this (Martin Samuel's '50 million reasons' article springs to mind) but no dedicated threads (unless I've missed them?). So I thought I would get the ball rolling...
This site shows a net outflow of close to £30million for last season.

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/tottenham-hotspur-transfers.html

Is this right?? Because surely when you add CL TV revenue from last season and increased income from gate receipts this figure will swell to over £50million. Am I taking crazy pills? Is this somewhat oversimplistic and just wishful thinking? I need to know! Because the same site also shows that even pre-CL we were spending fairly healthy amounts in years gone by...so this figure could rise even higher.
I would add a reduced wage bill in there but obviously wages will be going up so that sort of neutralises things, to what extent nobody knows. Same goes for affording Jose himself, there's compensation for Harry as many have pointed out. Yes we need to find funds for a new stadium but that's a different scale involving bank funding and private investment off the back of delisting.
But surely we've been quiet in arguably our most successful spell in over 20 years? Although he may choose Chelsea for nostalgic reasons, I'd put my neck out and say we CAN give Jose £50-75million but agree that it would be stretching us and we would need him to deliver. As he usually does! I haven't seen many people saying that same thing on here....why?

p.s. another site I came across when looking for our transfer history was this:

http://www.mehstg.com/transfers.htm

looks like Summer 2008 was a real low-point for us. Taxi for Comolli?
oh and apparently 531 Dave Mackay's will get you 1 David Bentley. :bang: And £8k cashback...which is always nice.

Apparently Jose supported Spurs as a boy growing up in Portugal and had a poster of Ian Moores and Alfie Conn on his bedroom wall.

You do realise all these deluded threads and posts on here about mourinho coming to spurs will end up on a " let's all laugh at spurs" thread on other teams websites.

I can't see where I said he would come to Spurs Coops...
I was asking if we actually have the kitty to tempt him.

Quite right. You should all listen to this. The overriding factor in any decision one makes or venture one enters into should be, how will others judge me based on this? It's the only way to live a fulfilling, happy life. Constant fear directing your every move so as to not to be laughed at by random strangers.

There are so many potential factors at play here, that I think it's possible Jose would consider Spurs if he gets the free reign he needs in order to achieve.

Plus, if the FA really, really want Harry then Daniel could very easily negotiate that they pay for a 1 year contract for Jose as Harry's replacement.

The major stumbling block will come down to the 'free reign' as mentioned above ofset against the way Daniel likes to do business and how he very much keeps himself involved in decisions affecting the club.

Oh, the other thing to mention is Jose's family and if they like and would be settle back into London, as opposed to say ... Manchester :p

I'd be more excited about this Maureen in Nodnol business if A) he didn't already own property here and B) chel$ea and assnal weren't also going to be looking at their options in the summer (moreso chel$ea I think but Wenger might still be turfed out with another shit run to finish the season off).

No I don't think we have the kitty. We would need 250-500 million the way he goes on. We just don't have the capability to generate the cash he would want.

I think its possible, yes. I believe Levy could be persuaded to give him more money to spend than any other manager anyway, within reason of course and within our limits, simply because of the confidence he would have in appointing such a name. It would increase our exposure as well, like a snow ball effect with the success he achieves on the pitch and the ability to attract bigger names and keeping our present big names.

Levy will view it as more than just a regular managerial appointment of yesteryear anyway - we are at a pivotal point in our renaissance, it could be the catalyst to send this Club back to the very top which means a whole new ball game in terms of success and revenue. If Levy really wants him I think its possible, and he could just end up selling the project to him if he's determined enough.

All that said - its nice to dream and I'm a realist, its still a long shot

Clearly if he did come to us it would be on the understanding that we wouldn't be splashing gazillions every window. Bear in mind that the FFP regs are going to level the playing field somewhat when it comes to new transfers - we're one of the few clubs that is completely self-financing.

Barring flagrant disregard of FFP and complete disinterest from UEFA, the likes of Man City and Chelsea may just about meet the regs (losses must not exceed £38m in total for this season and next) by selling fringe players but they won't be splashing £30m on players very often. This leave only Arse and ManUSA with a reasonable surplus to spend

It's not so much the transfer fees. We'd be able to bring in a couple of relatively big signings. The wages, they are the handicap. If Maureen thinks he can convince players to come here without the £100K+ basic wages, then it's doable. If not, then no chance.

If he did come in, his brutality would be shocking. Wave goodbye to King and Gallas for starters. At least competition for BAE, Walker and Lennon as well.

I'm not deluded as Coops suggests, and I genuinely don't care if anyone laughs at me because they misunderstand the debate I was trying to initiate. Shall I do what you think I should do, or what agrees with you more, just because you don't understand where I'm coming from? Would you in my position? Insert geneic "it's becoming harder and harder to post on here" comment here. I literally never start a thread and I've been here 10 years and people talk to me like this. Disappointed.

this all begs the question, if he needs a '£50m tranfer kitty' in order to be successful, just how special is he? if you add £50m worth of talent to our team, you're going to have one of the best squads in the world. it wouldn't take a 'special one' as manager to win.

I think Chelsea will be fine, likewise Citeh. Not because they'll comply but the likes of Milan and a most of the Spanish clubs would never be barred from the CL. The FFP are fine in principle but if they suddenly mean the CL losing big names and therefore advertising moolah, they'll be shit-canned - sorry, massaged - pronto.

Erm, one of us has the wrong end of the stick. I was just pointing out to Coops that it hardly matters what some turds who support Wolves or assnal say on their laugh at Spurs threads.

Word to your mother.
