Can we take a moment to laugh heartily at Everton?

The more I think about this - this is really just a slap on the wrist for Everton, and not a serious punishment.
I really think an Everton fan would murder you for saying that. Can you imagine, you and some other two dudes go do a bank robbery. They get most of the money and live the good life. A few years later they both get arrested. A couple of years later, you get arrested and sent to jail for 30 years.....their case is still pending and by all accounts it looks like they will get 12 months probation.

Those two dudes are Man City and Chelsea......................

Tbh 10 points is a fairly substantial punishment, what skews it is this season the league has three clubs who aren’t even remotely close to PL level.

So it seems light because actually I think Everton despite being deducted points are likely still favourites to finish above all three promoted clubs.

I think in previous seasons where the quality of the league top to bottom is stronger. Everton are basically saying goodbye at this point. The punishment itself to me is actually a substantial one, it just happens to have fallen right for Everton in the sense it’s more than salvageable.

City would employ the best and most expensive legal team known to man in order to contest and overturn any punishment dished out by Premier League

Didn’t City basically sponsor themselves at much higher than market value in order to be able to spend more on transfers due to the artificially inflated income? Or am I imagining that?

Everton might survive this season but if Burnley and other clubs do sue and win damages then Everton will probably have to sell players to survive so it might well be an ongoing struggle to stay in the PL.
Took eight months to get a result in this case and looks like they were only charged with one offence, in the Man City case they charged with over a 100 offences , it's going to take a whole lot longer for a result in that case.
I for one am confident that Murray Rosen KC and team will find evidence against MC and hefty points deduction or hopefully relegation will follow.
Decent clear explanation of how it works from the Guardian.

It's still early enough in the season for Everton to have had European qualification ambitions, until now. So it no doubt feels like a pretty heavy punishment from their point of view. And of course there is still the risk that it may result in relegation however unlikely we may now think that is.

But given the seriousness of the cheating, and the relative penalties handed out to players who lose the best part of a season for gambling but probably making no difference to any results, it is actually mild.

I do think cheating at the top level, as opposed to lower down the leagues, is still taken far too lightly by the football authorities. Perhaps for obvious reasons.

What I find amazing about your post is, you had to tell us who the other 2 dudes where 😄❤️

lets hope other two dudes get punished and if Everton get 10 points city should be relegated two divisions at least and Chelsea god only knows.

That's why in every robbery movie you got the leader talking about laying low, don't spend more money than people know you got and make sure to white wash the money.
The wild card of the group of course got other ideas ..
Many times that person drag the other people of the group down with them, can only hope.

Again - the actual punishment here is going to be a small fine. Yes the headlines will scream about the points deduction - but it won't cause them to be relegated, nor lose out on a European spot. So, its more bark than bite.

A 10-point deduction would actually hurt City or Chelsea more - as that could impact whether City win the league, or whether Chelsea get a European spot.

With City they absolutely must be stripped of all titles. There really is no other option for the rules to mean anything.

You can't have someone disqualified from the competition for breaking the rules but they still win.

That's an assumption but I get your point. What I would point out though, is that they just scraped through last season and that was without a point deduction.

I'm just hoping those bastards disappear to the beach league.

Yeah - I agree - that in a "normal" season, a 10-point drop would really impact a team like Everton who are struggling for form.

But, I think this season has some historically bad promoted teams.

Right now Everton have more wins than Burnley, Luton, and Sheffield United have - combined. So, I don't think Everton are serious candidates for relegation.

You're really trying to piss on my cornflakes! Every post I've made regarding Everton, mentions my dream for them to get relegated. :(:(:(

That has to be one of the more meaningless penalties to apply. Nobody will care. Players, managers, fans, will all know they won, and already celebrated those trophies.

If you want to punish them - its not about taking away what they already have - its about ensuring they don't get any more in the near future.

Disagree. All of the trophies would be removed from the cabinet, all of their honours lists would have to be changed and the history books would always have a massive star next to them to show they cheated at an unprecedented level for 15-20 years. It would be a huge stain on anyone and everyone associated with the club. Any time one of their fans would try to say we won the title they’d be destroyed by opposition fans and ridiculed for being the biggest cheats in football history, officially.

That shouldn’t be the only punishment though, it should just be one part of it.

They should also both be relegated and given huge fines relating to the length of time they cheated and how much they cost other teams in that period. That would basically obliterate the pair of them for a long, long time.

Oh and if the owners are still there (like in City’s case) they should be forcibly removed too.
