Yeah... what Ray said...

We can only screen the game if:

The game in question is not on Sky or Setanta
The game in question is not a 3pm Saturday kick off
There are no other English football matches on Sky or Setanta at the same time as the match

So yeh... non starter

Plus i've already organized a BBQ with my mates

It's a strange one really, because they could just charge us an extortionate amount for a licence to show the game. It's not like Sky lose any money, as they wouldn't have people turning off subscriptions just for a one off Wembley event? It's not a pay-per-view jobby, so it's not like they'd be losing revenue there.

I'm surprised that there would be any legislative reason why they couldn't. In fact I'd be dumb-founded. How better to make a quick buck than to have that on?

But yeah, as Ray said, please don't email the club with inane questions all the time: a) it doesn't reflect well on this site and b) it doesn't reflect well on this site.

I've never seen one... but I'm imagining the commercial sky contract has something about it in... i.e. the contract they use with pubs...

Any landlords on here?

Please don't waste their time, or your own...

The club would like to, but they're not allowed. It's not a matter for debate really.

Also I saw an email from Barber on FTL, where he said that even if we could license it we wouldn't have the staff available, as most will be at Wembley.

the best plan is to go to the england-switzerland game on the 6th and hide in the stadium until the game on the 24th.

I believe that the Bill Nick is showing the game.

If I wasn't going I would definitely be in there, the atmosphere will be fantastic with loads of screens to watch, Spurs songs blasting out and some cracking bar staff!

I'm not talking about Sky's bog standard commercial contracts.

I'm talking about negotiating a one-off special licence to provide WHL with the game.

Yeah, but i'm guessing that the standard commercial contract forbids sky negotiating a one off special contract...

Ok, this is horribly wrong... but the general logic is right...

10000 yids in Paxton = 10000 yids not watching it at the pub (ok, some of them would watch at home, but you get the idea)

say the average yid spends £15 in the pub while watching a football match... thats £150,000 of lost revenue for the pubs of North London... remembering that these pubs are paying in excess of 10k a year for their Sky contract...

I'd imagine (and i'm in no way ITK on this) that there is something contractually forbids them doing this without compensating the pubs in some way... which is impossible in practice...

10k? I thought that it was 3k?

So what happens if a 10 pubs of 1000 people capacity open up in various areas between now and the final and want to have sky? Are they not allowed to because they're potentially taking away customers from other pubs?

That sort of exclusivity is hideously anti-competitive and I doubt very much if it a contract would have anything like that sort of prohibition?

The principle's flawed mate, in my eyes anyway.

10k? I thought that it was 3k?

I think it's assessed by the size of the premises...

My local landlord said he paid around £1000 a month.

And Stoof, I hadn't really thought about that...

would the local authority would grant planning permission? If they did, local landlords could object the decision etc... cos they'd be losing out on much more than match day revenue!

As a side note... does anyone know the biggest Sky pub in the UK? My local Wetherspoons (formerly the biggest pub in the country) doesn't have it... is that anything to do with licensing issues?

My point was people from all over the place to come to watch Spurs. It's highly unlikely they are all centralised in one area. If however many pubs opened up in just London that have the potential not actual to show it to 10,000 people then surely the principle is the same?

And how many times have you seen pubs next door to each other, as well as cafes, etc. etc. "Changes of use" are relatively straightforward in planning terms. Relatively - I did a Commercial Property module last year, and obviously there could be issues place-to-place but it's generally not that hassled an area.

What I'm saying is, I doubt this is that sort of issue - at no stage would Sky allow a Landlord the right to an exclusivity in area. That would be shooting themselves in the foot. Completely.

So which is why I'm pretty non-plussed as to why they don't do one-off things like that.

I don't know all of the facts, and there maybe sponsorship issues etc. etc., but just seems a missed op to me.

Someone posted an email from the club which went into why they couldn't show the West Ham (lasange-gate) match a couple of years ago... went into quite a bit of detail...

to do with advertising contracts and landlords if IIRC... tho to be honest, you are a lawyer, so I don't even know why i'm trying to argue with you!

Maybe it is now... up until fairly recently it was the Regal in cambridge... not sure "biggest" was measured by tho... floor space, cubic space, capacity...? Probably most expensive! Stupid Cambridge prices
