If we were somehow to get the Champions League final and finish in the top 4 would this surpass winning an Fa/League cup for you this season?

Yes because as the dude above me said, its vital for our progression.

The exposure, the recognition we get tonight and next week is far more than any FA Cup. It is the way football is going. Poch and im sure Levy knows this.

More exposure and recognition, more money from income and commercial streams and more money for players (lol) and greater an further progression. We are in a position to drag ourselves away from Manure, Arse and Chelscum if we utilise all this to our advantage come this summer.

Otherwise, no point.

So what is the point of progression and position without actually winning something? Is the sole objective of the club is to make money and prestige without any success on the pitch, or is the ethos of having a club in the first place, is to compete and win trophies? I believe the latter hence I voted to win a trophy. Winning trophies will result in money and prestige and will enhance our history , much more than finishing 4th

To be fair the OP stated 'this season' as a timeframe; his scenario wouldn't be the status quo going forward for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, we put in 3 or 4 seasons qualifying for the CL, sort out the stadium naming rights and increase overall revenue. This, in turn, will give us an incredible platform to go and win trophies (including FA and League Cups) for the next 30+ years.

Put it this way; 15 years ago, what were the chances of us lifting an FA or League cup? And what are the chances now? They're better, because our infrastructure including training ground, stadium, revenue, etc has improved. But we could only increase these chances by forgoing transfer spending in the medium term.

Tbh, it's all moot anyway, because I think we're pretty much there now with building up our infrastructure. There's no reason we can't complete on all fronts from next season onwards.

I think that will come though because by generating additional income through the added and prominent exposure, we would be able to invest more, get higher quality players and then winning will come.

Look the issue we had this season is we didnt have enough players so we had to prioritise and nights like tonight is just awesome.

When you buy a player, i doubt a player will think oh you guys won the FA Cup? great ill sign for you... players now want CL as of paramount importance - thats just my view though. They ofcourse want to win but CL is well, the best.

Here we go again...winning a domestic cup will NOT:

- incentivise our best players to stay
- give us the international profile required
- help attract good players
- earn us as much, enabling us to pay good wages, good fees and thus attract good players

Repeatedly participating in the Top 4 will help us do those things, and it will stop one of our rivals doing the above. Domestic cups, while not an irrelevance, are second tier trophies.

We might not like it, but it's all about the CL these days, and continually qualifying for it (and ideally progressing) is the foundation for success.

I think the fact we’ve never achieved it in our entire history while we’ve won 14 FA/league cups tells you everything you need to know. We may never even get to a semi final again let alone a final. In the words of a certain someone- Drink it in !!

Top 4 alone with everything that has happened would be a great season. But we are 3rd not 4th. 3rd on its own means a great season again. Coupled with CL semis immense season. CL final would mean even better and whisper it, winning it and top 3 would be our best season for decades and we haven't even made a signing and had to deal with Wembley and countless injuries.

Players and Poch deserve a lot of credit for what they have done this season up to now. They have put everything into it, whatever happens from tonight onwards I am proud of them.

Last time out against City I said it was the biggest 180 mins of our recent history, and if we managed to win anything else would be gravy. But I think these next 180 mins are far more important and valuable to this club and us as supporters.

We have come so far with very little resources and our squad is bare with injuries. We just moved into our new stadium over 6 months later than expected, and yet somehow, someway we've made it this far. Whose to say we can't go all the way?

I believe in the Lads and win or lose, I will be proud to say I've seen the mighty lilywhites play in a CL semi-final.

Hopefully we can use the fact that we've got a squad capable of getting to the CL final to attract TOP CLASS midfielders to come join us.

This summer is an absolute massive turning point for this squad. If Levy squanders it we risk stagnating, if we go out and use it as am opportunity to bring in some additional quality to turn us from what we are now, to actual winners of stuff. Absolutely crucial.

once upon a time the FA Cup was watched all over the world, now days (if I knew where to look) I bet the viewing figures are way below half it used to be. I used to get up in the morning and was glued to the TV for the whole day, now I couldn't give a rats. the CoC has even less attraction. yes trophies mean a successful season, but a CoC or FA Cup means Thursday nights unless you get top 4. who wants to go to a match with an attendance only half full, no real atmosphere unless you get a big team in the KO's.

I would be very happy to win a cup and finish top 4, but today top 4 means playing great teams in Europe

I'd rather try and fail at the best competition club football has to offer than win a domestic trophy. I know that emotionally it's far easier to stomach a domestic win over coming close and failing but I'd rather see us try and reach the pinnacle of club football, I think domestic trophies in this day and age don't hold that much value.

More to the point, I reckon Arsenal would trade their last 3 F.A cups for a champions league medal.

Well the ethos of the club are to dare is to do and even in failure there's an echo of glory. That to me means that going for the pinnacle of our sport and failing would be more memorable than adding an ninth F.A cup or fifth League cup.

The thing is if you won the FA/CoC cup, in 5years time other than our own fans would remember it off the top of your head. Win the CL your be remembered.

Trophies are nice and I know players want to win them etc. but for me I love watching us in the Champions League and I would rather be in it and not win anything than not be in it and win the mickey mouse domestic cups

Yes. Domestic cups only really make a difference in your own country. European success is a global achievement.

For me it's League title and Champions League title as the 2 top trophies any team can win. You can't win the latter if you're not in the competition though so that makes top 4 or Europa League success the next most important. FA Cup or Carabao Cup come after.
