Cheeky appeal to UEFA?

Besiktas have just lost their appeal to avoid a ban on european football this season - meaning there is a "spare" CL place.

Would it be worth a punt for the club to offer to fill that spot? Considering we lost out on a CL place last season after finishing 4th, and UEFA have since changed the rules to avoid that happening again.... They might look to right the wrong of last season and offer us Besiktas' place in the CL this year.

I know its a LOOOOOOOONG shot, but go on Levy, have a go at negotiating us into the CL this season - can't do any harm and there is a spare slot!

Why is every almost certainly hopeless idea automatically labelled "cheeky"?

It'll go to the next Turkish team down the line that isn't also banned. Seems like half the league is atm.

When Feyenoord were banned (about 07) Spurs got a bye.

I would assume a walkover or another Turkish team.

I can see the call now... Somewhere in North London

Daniel Levy: Little Timmy, get Platini on the phone for me.

Tim Sherwood: Sure thing boss!

Michel Platini: Oui?

TS: Please Hold for Daniel Levy.

MP: I hope that's not merde in my pantaloons

DL: Remember me Michel? The chairman of the team who were screwed out of a Champions League place then had our fans and players racially abused all over Europe! To top it all off we've now had Real Madrid so far up our star mans arse that we assumed they'd had a civil partnership!

MP: Oui, er erm we're sorry about all that but who knew, the team that I hate more than all others beat Bayern, what are you gonna do?

DL: I'll tell you what you can do, give us Besiktas spot in the CL to apologise for all we've had to deal with at the hands of UEFA!

MP: I'll make a note of that, organise a committee and put a plan into action, you'll be inserted into the Champions League qualifying round and once again we're sorry for all the trouble.

DL: Good man (hangs up)

MP: (chuckling, puts phone down) Le Rosbif, Europa League qualifying stages again for you ohehoheha

Why would we get it? Had they been banned before the start of last season, then yes it may have been worth a shot. We finished 5th, thus didn't qualify and it has no bearing on Besiktas. it will go to the next Turkish side, unless they're all going to be banned.

wasn't this because the competition had already started and we were facing them soon after?
Also it the only option would have been to bring back a club that was knocked out already in the competition.

Here there is plenty of time to get another club in, but it will be the next club down in the Turkish league.

A 'cheeky' request followed by a 'go on then you loveable little scamp' and a good hair tussling. It's like asking for the last slice of cake. Can't see it being a problem.

more relevant maybe, last year we didn't have to play a qualifier for the Europa League but this year we do. Why is that?

Because last year we were given a group stage bye by UEFA because we'd been dumped out of the CL the way we were. This year we finished 5th and have to qualify just like everyone else.

Surely a Turkish side will be given the place. This is a wind up thread. Just saying......
