Mirror article:- Could we be one of them? Anyone think of any transfers we've been involved in as we had a certain Mr Arnesan doing our transfers?

Chelsea transfer ban is just the tip of the iceberg - we are looking at hundreds of cases, warns Fifa insider
Fifa chiefs are ready to throw the book at other English clubs in the wake of the transfer ban imposed on Chelsea over the Gael Kakuta affair.

While the Stamford Bridge outfit are incensed at being singled out by the world governing body over their capture of the French winger, it emerged last night that many other members of the Premier League elite could be in the firing line.

Manchester United have come out fighting over Le Havre’s claims that the Old Trafford outfit offered a six-figure sum to the parents of French under-16 skipper Paul Pogba before his move to England in the summer.

But last night it was revealed that FIFA have already begun an investigation into Serie A outfit Fiorentina’s complaint that United robbed them of Italy under-16 skipper Michele Fornasier.

If FIFA were that serious why did they wait until the summer 09 tranfer window closed, effectively letting the clubs trade as normal for this year, when a ban prior to the start of the window would have hurt more ?

I was reading up on it. This is just inexplicable:

“What these clubs are doing is like what I have seen from Qatar in other sports, who sent their sporting directors to the ghettos of Paris to recruit and nationalise young athletes.
“We are perfectly happy to see such misbehaviour being sanctioned.”

Why should any team be vilified for recruitment in poor areas!!!!??? It should be applauded!

I mean organized crime gave Dwight Yorke his big break. WHOEVER unearths athletes it does not matter. It has to be of benefit to the PLAYER, not whining about nationality, poaching or anything else that can be summed up as football scouting.

If I were a 14 year old gifted player, I would be FURIOUS if I had to rely on the scouting pool of whatever region I was in. I would much prefer the whole of Europe be allowed to sign me.

IF there are loads of clubs that have broken the rules, would they really ban all those clubs from transfers for 2 windows?

think it only applies to kids though, but you can bet your life that levy is guilty of tapping up managers players coaches and god knows what, and then he has the cheek to moan about it when clubs do it to us?

I'm not sure we'd have ever got someone to breech their contract though. Daniel Levy tends to keep that sort of stuff clean. If not, we'd probably have Arshavin in our squad.

getting ramos and redknapp were all above board

Redknapp absolutely above board- we spoke to the pompey chairman first and agreed what was in effect a transfer fee for him.

Ramos one was a little more complicated due to vastly different tapping up rules in spain, but again compensation was agreed so there are no problems there.

Dunno if this has been said already, but I suspect this has something to do with Premier League clubs dominating the champions league. As much as I hate defending United and Chelski, I believe Real Madrid should be in for punishment as well. Call me suspicious I just don't trust the governing bodies when it regards the handling of English clubs..

Both pompey and seville received compensation, the clubs who Chelsea and Man Utd allegedly poached the kids from did not.

Grow up mate. And I use the word "mate" in the loosest possible way.

There are different rules for managers/coaches anyway, and Robofan (who knows more about the inner workings at Spurs than just about anyone else on SC) dropped a rather heavy hint that it was Ramos who approached us.

I'd almost be quite relieved if we were banned for a transfer window or two.

Bit of a little Englander attitude here. Lens instigated this complaint two years ago. Roma have already had a similar sanction. Chelsea and a few others have taken the poaching of kids to a different level. I applaud FIFA's action, I would have more faith in them than the FA, Tevez West Ham affair was all above board?etc. As for EUFA, Platini is a football man not some freeloading toadie, I have complete faith in his guardianship of European football.

I agree with your point about the F.A, a governing body who refuse to punish those in the wrong with a punishment that will actually deter them. However, since Heysel I think the European governing bodies have taken a particularly hard stance on English clubs and the national team.

And as for the brilliance of Platini did he not say that players being transfered before 18 was Child labour? and no different than working in a factory at that age? A little naive to say the least, maybe i'm on my own, but I have little faith in the 'Guardianship of European Football' as you put it. Years of Sepp Blatter have done little to help in the respect might i add..

Sadly, we all live in a 'cheat' world now. Football has always been in the mix; Matt Le Tissier lost all my respect this week after admitting he tried to change a result.

Benefit cheat scum, football cheat scum, rugby cheat scum, MP cheat scum.

No wonder this country has gone back to the 70's.

Good on FIFA I say.

Edit: Scott Brown just proved it, let's sign him in January :)

Blatter is FIFA and a completely different animal entirely, he is a politican in all but name. Do you not believe that Chelsea deserved their punishment, the sheer arrogance of Kenyon and Arnesen poaching young players nurtured by small clubs, and then refusing to pay any compensation, is morally justified. Well done Lens for standing up to the bullies.
