When was the last time we did business with Chelsea?

No chance IMO.
I think it’s different under new owners now. The frustrations over the modric dealings are in the past so if they need to shift players they won’t cut us out if we are the only party. More importantly is he what we need, had a few hot spells but has gone quiet in the last season or two. Could work in the system we are looking at and a tidy player. Maybe the level we are realistically dealing in this summer

We are no longer rivals for top 4! ..... Just mid table now 😭

New owners so might make things easier, but we all know how well levy gets on with people.

He’s a really, really good fit for the system that Ange will want to play. Not quite an 8 not quite a 10 and with a knack of storming the box.

My concern is that even in his really good season at Palace his passing ain’t all that which limits his ceiling as a player.

If there’s a deal to be done there’s worse players out there but I do think there’s probably better choices too.

Yeah agree with this. If we want someone all-energy to press for days who can also pop up with ~10 goals from range or arriving in the box then he'd be a great option. But if we want someone more technical to tick over passes and provide genuine creativity then he's not what we need at all.

I have no idea what kind of player he is at this point.

My guess is we'll continually be linked to English talent due to HG requirements and the fact that most of our youngsters that are highly rated are probably not ready at this point?

HG from last year's squad: (12) Kane, Skipp, White (loaned 1/2 way), Bowden (at end of season), Devine (throughout season), Dier, Davies, Doherty (was sold 1/2 way), Spence, Sess, Tangaga, Forster

Doesn't factor in those that had a full year's loan like Parrott, Scarlett, etc.

You could easily argue the bulk of that list will not be there due to being sold or loaned, or is not at the skill required for the current squad. Therefore the links of Raya, Maguire, Gallagher make sense.

To me for example, We can probably move on someone like Hojbjerg for a good fee and replace him with Gallagher. At worst, Gallagher is a squad player who works hard, at his best he can push to be a consistent starter.

Decent enough player, but we need 5/6 first team players, weekly starters and not sure he is that.
Smells like a bargain is being sought, at the right price it may be a goer.

This is the level we are at now 💩
Bad attitude on this one mate, its all about does the player fit Ange's style of football not are they the biggest name possible.

Take the Japanese lads who took the SPL by storm and were phenomenal for Ange.

Gallagher is exactly the type of profile of player who would thrive under Ange's style of football, speed, tenacity, high energy, work rate, decent passing, decent creativity, good technique etc etc.

Genuinely don't understand what the point of this would be. I don't see him offering anything different to what we've already got tbh. Won't be cheap enough to be a squad filler and we need other roles filled far more urgently. Agent leak trying to drum up interest would be my guess.
Connor Gallagher is a very different midfielder to : Bentancur, Bissouma, Skipp, PEH and Sarr.

I have no idea what kind of player he is at this point.
He reminds me of a young Scott Parker or Michael Brown (not quite as filthy). Lots of energy and desire and looks great against lesser opposition, but not quite good enough for the top clubs.

Perfect player for a relegation threatened team imo.

This is an astute signing, a player that fits with the system we're hoping to play. I think he'd be monstrous in an Ange system.

This would be incredibly underwhelming compared to some of the other options out there, stinks of a midtable signing to be honest.

Sure he has good workrate and is a great presser, that’s excellent but high energy alone isn’t enough. Bang average passer, no real vision, average technique.

The two advanced 8’s are meant to be creative, good technique, press resistant with good passing and skill as well as high energy. Gallagher doesn’t fit this at all.

He can’t play the main creative CM role as he gets hardly any assists and doesn’t have much creativity at all and he can’t play the link CM role as his passing is average, he isn’t dynamic enough on the ball or excellent in tight spaces etc.

He is a Palace or Fulham level signing imo.

If we go for him over someone like Alex Scott, Le Fee, Hatate etc I will be fuming.

Would be happy with this, think he'd be good under Ange, he was quality at Palace, alas we never do business with that lot so can't see it.

I do t think he’d be cheap. I think he’s perfect for the type of game we want to play

I keep seeing people say this but why?

You don’t just have to be high energy for Ange. You need to be very good on the ball too and creative. Gallagher doesn’t fit that at all, he’s limited and more of a worker who will get a few goals imo.

I see him as a younger version of PEH but with a smaller turning circle and a few more goals.
Would I let PEH go and if the figures matched up replace him with Gallagher?
No brainer thinking about it.
