I cannot understand people in here questioning why a player who is supposedly wanted by Postecoglou would not fit into his system.

Why the fudge would he want a player who does not fit into his system.

if he wants him we should get him and if all the smart analysts who are telling us how Ange should build his squad should really take a look in the mirror.

Apologies for the rant but are we really debating whether or not a player could fit into a system that we do not even know what it is yet?

He was phenomenal at Palace. Saw him live a few times there as it's just down the road.

Like fire off the ball but ice the moment he received it. Led the press and created turnovers but then the game slowed when he had the ball at his feet.

May have just been having one of those seasons where everything goes right, but he was class.

I personally think Gallagher is a good player and can be developed into a great system player by a coach like Ange.

I also think this could be the compromise in our search for HG players. If signing Gallagher means we can sign both VDV and Tapsoba. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Not if they don't pony up they won't, and Brighton want an awful lot of money for him.
And so they should considering the market atm. Question is if he will start putting up a fuss will they drop their price a bit. That being said Chelsea have been selling quite a bit and i wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually went to 100

Totally agree. I can't help that think if we can shake off the "ew Chelsea" narrative then he would really good in an Ange midfield 3. IMO he offers something that we don't have. He's a bit PEH, a bit creative, and a bit Dele all in one. Maybe he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter but could be a really useful addition to the squad.

With Maddison & Bissouma I see him competing for the Bentancur role while he's out with Sarr. While all three are box to box midfielders, I think Gallagher's stats support that he's best as an 8/10 hybrid.

He averages more progressive carries per 90 and successful take-ons than Bentancur. His best stats are that he gets more touches in the penalty area and progressive passes received than almost any other midfielder. To me this shows that he would be popping up in and around the box to support Kane. Yet his defensive stats are up there with the best B2B midfielders (very similar to Bellingham and Goretzka 😯)

Again, not trying to say he's world class - but he's young (and HG), I think he was used wrongly at Chelsea, and can form a nice competition for places with Sarr/Bentancur. The only downside is I would feel Sarr has to prove himself quickly to get time before Bentancur returns, or else a Jan loan could be on the cards.

I think i must be the only one that remembers how brilliant he was a Palace just over a year ago. For £35m, this is an absolute no brainer.

He a polar opposite player to McGregor.
Don’t compare the players based purely off of last season.

It would be more accurate to compare the Gallagher of Palace and West Brom who was playing as a box to box 8, and compare him to the McGregor of Celtic that existed before Postecoglou who similarly played as a box to box 8/winger at times.

Then compare their strengths and what attributes they actually bring to the team.

Both are tireless workhorses,
both love to get stuck in and leave a foot in,
both are powerful carriers of the ball and able to drive through the midfield traffic,
both like to crash the box late and more than capable of scoring goals,
both not extremely creative but very capable progressive passers.

Think he'll be a good player to transition to a 433. I doubt he'll be a starter when Bentancur returns but think he's a good fit for the style of football Ange will play.

Bissouma/Skipp
Maddison/Sarr----Bentancur/Gallagher

Looks good to me

This would be strange from a Chelsea POV, Poch surely must want him. He's exactly the type of player he would love.

Points to Poch having no control over his squad.

As for the player himself, he's good, but nowhere near 50m good. Worth a dabble at around half the price.

Why Chelsea would sell to us at a discount is a mystery and why we would consider paying over the odds is also a mystery. I'd be surprised if this happens.

They didnt in January when he kicked up a fuss. They dropped him from the squad and said he wasnt leaving until.summer and only if their valuation was met
