It looks like Tottenham Hotspur is closing in on the signing of David Raya.

I wonder how much consideration has been given to his height - compared to other top-flight goalies.

Raya. 183 cm

Lloris. 188 cm

Martinez. 195 cm
Alisson. 193 cm
de Gea. 192 cm
Pope. 191 cm
Ederson. 188 cm
Pickford. 185 cm

Courtois. 200 cm
Donnarumma. 196 cm
Neuer. 193 cm
Simon. 190 cm
Onana. 190 cm

The Club certainly needs a new goalie but Raya’s lack of height is a big risk - even if he did very well last season.
Maybe he could wear big gloves.

He's basically Tom Huddlestone in goalkeeper form.

Sign him up.

Can't beat a quality ball striker, can you? So few about, and it's almost intangible as to what the difference is between those players that can do it and those that can't because you're still kicking the bloody football. Just hits different. Literally. A pleasure to watch.

Any thoughts on Ange maybe bending his philosophy slightly - from what i've read it seems to be a very strict play out from the back, no long balls policy, but with a keeper so adept at long balls and the elite level combination of Kane and Son having had so much success with a direct ball being flicked on, it would be slightly surprising if Ange wasn't open to the idea of 'going long' when opportunities arose......at the very least it'd keep the opposition guessing and add another string to our bow ???

No chance Ange changes his philosophy at all. Hopefully he is pragmatic enough to know when to go long, especially when Kane is so good at receiving longer passes, but Ange has a way of playing and will stick to it no matter what.

Of all the keepers we've been linked with Raya is the one I like the most. I was at WHL for the Brentford game and he was brilliant but I've watched him for a while now and he's very solid.

I thought you were gonna say as in Mary had a little lamb!
my god. if they read this they'll start calling me Mary. tenuous associations always make the best nicknames.

That's why A&C is called Ball-Bag. because of that time in [Redacted for legal and safety reasons].

In Tuesday’s article in The Athletic, they claim that Raya is our first choice. But they also say that we are looking at several others, naming AC Milan’s Mike Maignan specifically:

“Tottenham have set their sights on Brentford’s No 1 David Raya as Lloris’ replacement. They are looking at other options, including AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, although he would cost far more than Raya.”.

Haven’t picked up any other links on Maignan here on SC. But boy, would I love to see him joining us! Raya is a solid top half PL class, but Big Mike is world class.

Hypothetically speaking. If Brentford wanted Spence ( I believe they wanted him in Jan ) as part of the deal would you do it? ( personally I have a lot of time for Spence and feel he was given a raw deal last season ).

Yes.

I don't think he fits into a back 4 system.

Haven't seen as much of Spence as most have, but I don't really see where he fits in to Ange's system.
