So Daws is back in a couple of weeks. He deserves more than the "Welcome back to White Hart Lane" announcement. I asked the club if they could do something and mentioned being at Anfield for our game a few years ago when it was Sami Hypia's last game. The Kop had cards that made his shirt etc, looked brilliant.
Spurs inform me they plan nothing for Michael. They have an excuse of him playing for another team.

I think that is a pity. We always seem ungenerous and grudging as a club, with reasons we cant do things, like have banners or a surfing flag (although after several years of campaigning we got the surfing hanky).

It would be nice if the club were more generous of spirit.

Sorry Jimmy, I agree with the club on this one.
Daws now plays for another club and we should not be doing anything so extravagant for Him, Hud or Jake - who all spent a considerable amount of time at the club.
As much as i liked, hell - loved Daws and Hud, the time to honour them was before they left.

The club are right on this one. Hull are fighting for their lives and it would not be fair on him, his team-mates and fans to turn it into a Dawson jamboree when they have a job to do.

There will be plenty of time to celebrate his career when he hangs up his boots and comes back to the Lane.

Ajax done some celebration for Jan and Eriksen, even after they left.
although that wasn't when they went back to play against Ajax.

Actually - that may be a good idea. to have a yearly event where we can call back ex-players who represented the club for a certain amount of time and give them a good send off. logistics may be difficult - with a lot of the players still playing in the PL and also our fans are not the most apprciative at times - could be an embarrassment.
but that could be an option...

Maybe we should go all out and celebrate the players who are here right now just as we should all have been behind Dawson in his many years at the Lane. Daws and Co will get a great reception but they're professionals and know that once the whistle blows we know where our loyalties have to lie.

We are just not one of those type of clubs, pains me to say it. Remember what PSV did for Gomes? That would never happen at the Lane for any player.

Michael Dawson was a fantastic servant to this football club and that's something that shouldn't be forgotten.

Whether we make a grand gesture of it I don't know, but I would like to think we can sound out a few "there's only one Michael Dawson" even if its just before the game or when he is walking off etc after full time.

Ideally, we can be 4-0 up and then pay homage to him with all sorts of songs.

The culture of Dutch football is very different though. Ajax, PSV, the club and fans expect their best players to be sold to England, Spain, Italy, etc. From Cruyff, Romario, Ronaldo, Van Basten, Guillet, Suarez, they are proud of their status as a a place where talent is nurtured and grows, even if it goes elsewhere to bloom. English football is different though, and even though we've seen some of our best go and bloom elsewhere, we find it harder to celebrate their success.

I agree with the club I'm afraid, and I loved Daws. A big cheer when his name is read out and some chants but I don't see why the club should do anything more.

What are we expected to do exactly? He plays for the opposition team. I'm sure he will get a nice round of applause and a few chants, that will suffice.

I remember personally emailing Alan Sugar could we have some sort of celebration for Paolo Tramezzani. I think he gave the club such a lift, he added some flair too even though he was a left back. Not only was he handsome, possibly the best left back we had since Cyril but he was incredibly modest. I envisioned 35,000 fans singing his name with one of them Dortmund style banners that make some sort of face and a whacky caption. Even today I've been gutted at Sugar's response "can't be arsed"

If this was his last game, I could see it. But even then, the club is going to give him a testimonial - that is the proper time to honor him for his service to the club.

The club is much more generous than before. Remember the time we sold the great Cliff Jones to Fulham for 5000 pounds instead of giving him a testimonial or a free transfer.

The club have granted him a testimonial - even though he only clocked up 9.5 years, rather than the traditional 10. This was confirmed at the THST meeting before last.

But it can't happen while he is still playing so prominently for another top flight club.

Who knows - it might well end up being the final game at WHL in May 2017.

I'm not wrong then. The club has been more generous than at the time when Jones left in 1968.
