Was last night the beginning of a beautiful partnership with Defoe and Pav?

I thought their movement was excellent, they were drawing defenders out all over the place, interchanging with positions, creating space for each other.

Both are very capable on the ball as well as not only picking a pass but finding themselves half a yard to get a shot in.

If I was a defender watching that last night, I would not look forward to playing against them if they continue like that.

Starting to click. There was a few moments where they both left a pass from Modric meant for the other but it was starting to look good

Everything about Defoe's goal was brilliant, especially Pav's through ball. Pav's getting better and better and if he stays, i think next season will be his season.

He didn't need to win me over, it was just a question of him settling in. The bloke has scored a lot of goals, runs around a lot creating space, got good skills, good passer and genuinely puts quite a bit of effort in. He has played a lot of football and still looks like he's got more games left in him. I think too many people were expecting him to do the Berbatov things, he's a different player but doesn't mean he won't do a bloody good job for us.

Hopefully him and Defoe can form a good partnership, too early to tell yet but fingers crossed. Yesterday looked very promising but it takes more than one game to make a proper assessment.

They took it in turns to pull wide or drop to halfway line, and seemed to always know where each other was (not a trait shared by poor old Darren B). Definitely a partnership developing.

Credit where credit's due. I've seen Defoe pass the ball more in the last few games than his entire first stint at WHL. His pass to Lennon for the first goal was smart, simple, and clearly effective. Pav layed a sublime pass out for Defoe's goal. Looking promising.

totally agree there movements and link up play was top notch last night something the side has struggled with all season, no disrespect to darren b but his link up play and awareness is poor..

We only signed Darren Bent to stop West Ham getting him! it was worth it to see West Ham not win a single thing :)

Defoe & Pav will hopefully be the new Keane & Berba.

Stoke are not a great team but they are usually pretty compact and difficult to just pass through.

You say it's just Stoke, but they got a 0-0 draw at anfield when Liverpool were flying, beat us, beat arsenal and chelsea struggled to beat them

We did what no other team apart from United have done - totally take them apart.

Its becoming very promising. I think next season could be a massive if we start with these two up front. But of course, we will need to hold on to Luka, who really is the gem.

Defoe in particular seems to have developed a football brain under Harry.

Could be an interesing few months up to May.

wouldnt get excited too early but that goal last night was a great team goal. Pav isnt the greatest at holding the ball up but is improving. Still think we need a proper target man (heskey would have been good). We need someone with the same style as koller - big, strong, experience of playing as a target man, great in the air.
