That was always going to happen now, players come back during the bounce period and then they start to level out after a few months, it happened under Jose where Alli was arguably our best players for the first few matches then what happened he leveled out.

We haven't seen a good consistent Alli for quite some time now, even under Poch in his last couple of years he flattered to deceive. IMO we should sell him this summer and replace him with a proper no10.

Would love him to come good but on balance agree with this as questions about his drive / work ethic won’t go away at this point

Does depends on who we could replace him with though given how bad our recruitment has been

Slightly non-footballing, but I think the dreadlocks really suit him - especially with the Balbo beard. I wasn't a fan of the mushroom cut.

There's something nostalgic about seeing a peak-Gullit looking guy on the ball, too.

but surely at least one of them has kept in out of the side this season and as you say they have not delivered the goods so I would say that he does justify his selection
No, because Alli is not the solution, in fact would just amplify the issue. We need to improve in this area and I have little confidence in all three being able to do this on a regular basis.

mate goals win games and change football matches - do you think the likes of Gundogan and Foden are central midfielders ? You work your side to suit your players which has been half of the problem this season and there is no set way to play football getting outnumbered in midfield is almost old fashioned. Modern football is more about keeping the ball and the set up of the side numbers 10s Maddison Grealish Lingarrd Foden all had very good seasons in sides that have been set up better than our.

There is always a place in a side for good footballers who score and make goals and Dele does that

Not a single thing there is correct.

You see the problem isn't the man who creates one goal and was very unfortunate not to create another - maybe it might be some of the poor defending in the game that gives the other side momentum and allowed them to play on the front foot
This is the problem. Why is our defense overworked? Outnumbered in midfield so we are constantly under pressure back there.
You honestly don't see that?

no I don't see that at Leeds who play basically aggressively man for man their wide players dominated our full backs neither Aurier or Reg were able to compete with them that's where the danger came from we tried to push on to them to negate it but we weren't able to do that perhaps the wide forwards could have dropped deeper but that's not either Son or Bales strength - we weren't to stop their momentum by keeping the ball which has been a problem all season and the side became disjointed and we couldn't link play together . Leeds don't look to overload the midfield at all they want to expose the full backs which is exactly what they did against us

Majority of those goals came 5 and 6 years ago, how much do you want to cling on to a player whose best seasons were so long ago.

Three and a half years of crap performances, let that sink in. Yes I am happy for him to be sold, I don't rate him. Is that clear enough?

  • 10 came in 15/16, so between 6 and 5 years ago.
  • 18 came in 16/17, so between 5 and 4 years ago.
  • 9 came in 17/18, so between 4 and 3 years ago.
  • 5 came in 18/19, so between 3 and 2 years ago.
  • 8 came in 19/20, so between 2 and 1 year ago.
  • None have come this season.

Ndombele and Lo Celso have been overall a massive disappointment in terms of assists and goals, so not sure this justifies Alli's inclusion.
Midfield performance cannot be judged solely on goals and assists. So many other things midfielders need to do.
Anyone using goals and assists would fail to see the importance of someone like Dembele for example

I'd love to see the Dele with a bit of swagger and maybe that edgy tackle as well. Since he took that out of his game his whole game seems to have suffered.

I thought Leeds simply walked through our midfield

Agree with this, he was always at his best playing on the edge. You felt at any minute he could score or wind someone up so much they'd try to wallop him! Poch in particular seemed to really like that element of his game and I would normally think Jose would but fuck knows what went on there!

Still one of the first our the door for me with Winks and Sissoko this summer. Never rated him, never will.

His personality and behaviour these couple of seasons are unacceptable, and I have no idea why he's suddenly back in the team.

He's a luxury player that worked because he had prime Dembele/Wanyama and Eriksen in the same team. And let's be honest we're not getting someone close to them for a long time.

Love Dele, love his attitude and swagger - hope we get ourselves a manager who will put an arm around his shoulder and encourage him to get back to his best.
