Well I wasn't trying to suggest a world cup draft specifically, whatever format works for people.

Do NFL fantasy drafts work differently from that format?

(E.g. player 1 picks someone, then player 2, etc.)

During the last euros we had this fantasy league auction kinda game...

Where we were given a fix amount if money and had to bid on players trying to form the best 11 players.

Think it was free for the euros (epl season isn't free) so should be free for the world cup.

Anyway I am game for it, I am sure quite a few others, Nailsy, Houds etc would love to take part too.

I was going to start a thread few months back on this exact topic I found on Redcafe

My question though was going to be is this lame/nerdy or not?

I mean on the surface it looked fun but after trawling through several of their simulated 'matches', it looked really fucking long and boring.

Also I refuse to believe they know so much about the players they claim to.

It also comes down to who makes the most effort wins and it's all really subjective (like are you judging the players on the very peak of their game/solely at WC's etc)

Subjectiveness is unavoidable, but we can change the rules to suit ourselves, e.g. just vote on who has the best team, rather than playing through all the matches at the end. However people want to do it really. Picking the team is the main fun.

As for nerdy, you're posting on an internet forum. Deal with it. :D

Looks like fun but also a massive mission..

It would require regular posting from the players (at least once per day for a few weeks), but shouldn't need too much work really.

Wonder if anyone would object to me starting a thread in Spurs Chat? This forum is fairly dead.

(Or we could do an all-time Spurs draft in Spurs Chat. That could be fun).

Do you have a link to a redcafe thread with an example of how the 'simulated matches' were done?

http://www.redcafe.net/threads/world-cup-peak-draft-pol-vs-crappy.383658/

Lineups and write ups posted at the start, then discussion and members vote on who they think will win.

There are further draft rounds where the knocked out players are picked from in between the games (so after the 1/4 finals, the players from the losing teams go into a pool, and the winners pick from that pool).

But like I said, we don't have to do it that way if people think it's too long winded.

oh u mean carry out our own competition? every match gets played for... a week where people vote? think its possible... but not sure it will hold our interest for too long...

i guess if u are game to start it, we need our own sub forums section where we can run a few matches at one go.

No mate looks like a draft to me but British folk often hate that and like to buy players from a budget or have free dibs at anyone but I'm keen if it's done via draft as that's part of the fun. Not interested in a world stars style but a draft of premier league players for a 10 match sprint to the end of the season, sounds great!
