Our 3 main priorities at start of window were GK, CB (min of 1) and attacking midfielder/no.10 type.
If we sign VDV instead of topsoba then 2 ways of looking at our business. We will have signed our no.1 midfield target & no.2 GK and CB which can be argued is good.
Other way of looking at it is we have failed to secure 2 of our main 3 targets who were both a great age and represented less risk than the no.2 options particularly the GK who would have been a near guaranteed success as a signing can be given he knows the league, plays exactly the way we needed etc.

I flip flop between the 2 views but I'm more on the latter at minute

I don’t see this happening now. It’s going to be VdV and someone average like Lenglet isn’t it
Well I guess it depends on sales . If we can shift the likes of Sanchez, Rodan, pericic and reguilon. Then there is no reason why we can’t sign 2 quality central defenders .

plus the fact the transfer window is open for another 7 weeks , still plenty of time for big Ange to shape the squad he wants

This is correct, normally at this point of the summer transfer window, Levy is busy trying to find his fax machine

We have to get 2 central defenders in and if Tapsoba and VDV are the ones we have scouted and chosen we shouldnt settle for cheaper alternatives.
We went into last summer with the likes of gvardiol, pau torres and bastoni touted to come in but we ended up with lenglet on loan to plug a gap and get our target this year. The result, our worst defensive record since the days of doherty and gardner.
Fast forward to this year and every fan could tell you what we needed and that included 2 centrebacks. I know there is a long way to go in the window but we are heading out to begin playing friendlies next week and we dont have 1 for the new coach to work with.
Im personally fed up of poch quotes about rebuilds from 4 years ago and wish we'd do it with some conviction.

Deadline will be approaching soon if not already passed, can imagine they’ll want one of them in before tour - suspect tapsoba is clear #1 which is why it’s not been as decisive as say the gk situation but I think this moves either way pretty imminently

I think we’ll go for one who can play both sides and a specialist lefty. So end up with either VdV and Tosin or Tapsoba and Lenglet.

Nah he’s not miles better but what he is is a big strong quick composed and very good on the ball. He’s not an aggressive defender but mops up play and is always in the right place as he reads the game well.
I don’t really rate guehi.

I'm coming round to the idea of VdVen (still can't call him VdV!) and Tosin.
It's the pace of Ven which is swinging me towards him because I love a pacey defender and at just 22, there's plenty of room to improve any weaknesses he may have elsewhere in his game.
