You understand it's not about offence, right? It's about disgust. There's a difference

Live tweeting late on the 15 June, Financial Times correspondent Michael Stothard shared a photo from the streets of Lille, reporting that a group of British football fans bribed a 7-year-old boy begging for money to down a bottle of beer in exchange for coins.

@KentuckyYid - yes, just having fun. No harm done. I mean the kid left home this morning to get drunk and laughed at.

He was probably grateful for the beer, hey?

What does a little humiliation & alcohol matter to a 7 year old?

and the weather was hot so he needed the refreshment. Thank his lucky stars those caring english fans happened by to water him and shower him with money. I bet he's never been so blessed

Hold on a minute, the picture in the FT Times correspondents tweet is not the same incident. The kid is wearing different clothing and the background scene is different. Even in the tweet it only claims he was told to drink beer but no actual evidence is offered. FWIW if it's true, then yes it's wrong and I don't agree with it. But let's not take two completely separate incidents and merge them into one, as that's wrong too.

Fucking makes it twice as bad & demonstrates that it's not just an isolated incident, man!

sorry but all I heard was "blah blah apologist". Let's just agree to disagree on what constitutes human decency and humane responses to those in need

He's not a random, make shit up type press person, he works for The FT.

Stothard claimed English fans made the kid drink a beer and smoke a cigarette yet didn't show a picture of either happening. Instead, he showed a picture of a kid standing there. You may be trusting of journalists but I'm not. They all went their own story to get headlines so they often spin the truth.

Don't you think if he could take picture of the kid standing he could have taken a picture with a beer or cigarette? Even with a cigarette it could have been the kids own. How many young kids think it's cool to smoke cigarettes and get their own. I remember as a kid our local shop taking us kids lunch money on boxes of ten cigs, and even single cigarettes.

Don't have an issue with your scepticism of journos, just the nature of the publication in question, which I know well, means I think its misplaced.

Well actually, it was published in BuzzFeed not FT. How's your respect for BuzzFeed for journalistic integrity?

The actual tweet has loads of people calling him out as a liar and he doesn't once try to defend himself. He's been getting shamed with comments like you stood there and watched it without intervening, and you watched it but took a picture after the event.

His claim stinks of bullshit.

As I wrote in a post, I`ve always felt almost warmly welcome in England. The most polite people in Europe. Almost too polite. "Thank you, please, excuse me, please, please, please" in every sentence, but that`s nice. When I see many english abroad I sometimes wonder what kind of english who enjoys traveling (in Europe). And honsestly, I would be ashamed and embarassed if I was english when I see those and read about how they behave.

To be honest, I dislike and almost literally hate this provocative singing/chanting and general monkey mentality more than I dislike real hooligan fighting in some backstreets. The latter is actually better, cause you`re not provoking and involving everyone if you do it that way.

I`ve seen some statements which maintain that the english have behaved well for 16 years now. No, not true. I`ve seen an english documentary film about the english behaviour in Germany in 2006. Not much of real fighting maybe, but a lot of provocative behavior. Stealing other nations flags, racist chants (you know- the one about the turks), thowing chairs etc etc.

That`s the worst. This monkey tribe behavior. I agree with Lineker: An embarassment.

The russian thugs are extremely voilent and terrible, yes. But, many english supportes are not tough enough to fight, but tough enough when it comes to throwing bottles and chanting shit when they have 100 persons surrounding them. Silly!

Don`t do it if you don`t mean it.

NB! It`s not Europe that have to adapt to and understand english supporters. It is english supporters who got to adapt to, respect and understand the country they are going to!

Don't worry many in the country want to leave Europe and I guess Europe will breathe a sigh of relief they don't have to let them in because of freedom of movement

Is it actually against the law to get a child to drink beer in a country which starts kids on wine while they're still on the tit? He'd probably already had a bottle of Merlot with lunch.

In a conversation as long as an encyclopedia, no one seems to have questioned why 7 year olds were wondering around a borderline locked down city on their own anyway...?
