I don't mind that either. In fact, I think it's the right approach as you look to bring in players who fit your club's vision. It's also held us in incredible stead over the years. Look at our best signings over the years.
Berbatov
Modric
Bale
Dembele
Vertonghen
Alli
Son
None of these players were top tier, none were incredibly expensive either. All had potential but needed work. The issue for me is that we've drifted from that slightly.
Ndombele was highly sought and came for big money but is struggling.
Sissoko, who did well last season, was an expensive buy who didn't particularly fit our MO.
Llorente was ancient and very limited.
Aurier was a problem at his previous club and had fallen out of favour.
Lucas didn't fit PSGs system and was no longer wanted.
Foyth was not a young British defender and incredibly inexperienced which meant he needed loads of time.
None of those guys fit our typical buy, which tells me somewhere along the line we stopped focusing on what made our team effective.
Bergwijn and Gedson seem to fit our MO much better, both young with high potential.
We then need to add the likes of Godfrey, Aarons, Bogle, Ferguson, Eze, etc. Focus on the talent under our noses. Not look for cast offs cause theyre cheaper or players we have no chance of getting.
It is exactly the right approach and how we should be operating. This kind of system has served the likes of Dortmund, Athletico, and Liverpool very well over recent past.
