There is. But it’s a long term investment. Which is probably why it would make more sense for a group to buy them, over a singular investor. You’d have to be very patient to see a return on investment... which would likely take about ten or so years. So, unless some exorbitantly rich individual wants to buy them as a play thing, it’s probably going to take a much larger business entity to come up with the moola. And even then, there are risks aplenty to consider. So, whether we like it or not, we are trapped with ENIC, Levy, Lewis, and the crippling stadium debt for the foreseeable future. Which is kinda a bummer, considering how precipitous our decline has become. Hard to see us competing for CL places over the four or five years. Much depends on getting lucky with low risk transfers on younger, unproven talent, and selling big players for huge transfer fees... a la Dortmund. But that also feels like a pipe dream, as it requires an extremely serious recalibration from the bottom up. A philosophy that would need to be woven into every aspect of player recruitment and development. A reset and restructuring that Levy and Lewis haven’t demonstrated much of an appetite for.

Agreed with much of that.

I wouldn't describe the stadium debt as "crippling", though. "Limiting" would be more accurate. The way that it is structured means that the club has flexibility with regard to repayment. In the meanwhile, the interest payable is at an historically low rate (aided by the club's good reputation as a well managed business). So, while the requirement to service and (eventually) repay the debt means that we cannot divert all operating profits towards transfers and wages, the stadium is (in normal circumstances) a veritable cash cow. So we will still have significantly greater clout in the transfer market than we had with no debt in the old stadium.

I would also argue that Levy has, in the past, very much demonstrated an appetite for the kind of DoF player (and coach) recruitment structure that you advocate. However, he appears to have lost sight of that. He needs to revisit it. And implement it thoroughly. Without caveat.

Regarding the bit in bold above, another problem with that type of strategy is that Dortmund isn't exactly competing with 5 other well-financed clubs (ie Liverpool, Chelsea, ManU, Arsenal, ManC) who are CL regulars, with well-financed newcomers (eg Leicester, Wolves, Everton, probably Newcastle) also competing. They're basically competing against Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and not much else.

It's amazing how much they get right with all the off the field activities and even things like their social media campaigns. Yet there always seems to be one step forwards and then one or two steps backwards when it comes to the football side.

And Levy tried to get clever, blowing an arranged deal trying to haggle off £4m.
This one grates more than any other in my opinion.
Just look at those states. They could have been for us.
£4m would easily have been covered by £40m in CL revenue.
Well I hope he’s happy! Great business.
Dreadful football being played, players not performing to half their previous standards. Left for dust by Utd, Wolves, Leicester, Chelsea, never mind Liverpool and City.
We can’t even match Sheffield Utd right now.
So hacked off with this lack of desire to kick on (on the field).
This can’t be the best way for ENIC to ensure future returns.
Grumpy Spurs fan ?

The recurring theme in Levy's tenure - trying to shaft his opponent, niggling over pennies, only to have it come back and blow up in his face.
You'd think he'd learned something over the past 19 years, but alas...

Can’t see a way we’re going to compete with the top 4 for the next few years. With covid strangling our budget this forthcoming season, plus an even tighter budget over the coming seasons with lack of CL football, I feel we’ve had our time in the sun for the foreseeable and our next cycle won’t be for 3/4 seasons.

Hopefully the stadium makes up the short fall and the added revenue keeps us competitive but I’m sure this situation would’ve a lot more palatable if we picked up a trophy or two at our height.

But this is the problem this myth that levy is great administrator, look at the fuck ups over the years when players that were needed and wanted didnt get because of this trying to be clever bollocks.

Probably twenty years of crying that Levy doesn't buy first choice players for managers. And then after transfer window when this happens he's hated even more because Poch wanted Lo Celso over Bruno :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

He was ready to take his medical with us - we took Lo Celso instead - this has been done to fucking death.

It amazes me how the problems are so evident yet no solution is present to us.

Lack of proper strategy, lack of good scouting, lack of long plan strategy through a competent DoF.

Honestly if I were a season ticket holder I would think twice about renewing it soon.

i don’t agree. It was widely thought at the time we targeted Fernandes to stop Betis fucking around with the Lo Celso deal. Lo Celso was always the Eriksen replacement and NDombele the Dembele replacement. Therefore I don’t think there was ever any real interest in Fernandes unless we were certain the Lo Celso deal wouldn’t happen.

Exactly. This is the crazy thing; Levy signed Poch’s first choice targets this summer and he’s still getting blamed ?
Yeah, I can happily accept he has fucked up and countless times at that, but this wasn't one of those times as he was doing what his manager wanted!

Ah well. :)

We missed the chance of achieving great things when we were so close. The CL final seemed like that last chance saloon for Poch and the group of players we had. League form had already fallen through the roof and that was their last chance to have something to show from that Poch era. A lot of players and staff seemed to lose the fight and passion after that game. This doesn’t look like a quick fix it’s going to take time and need a whole new evolution of a team. The good news is we are Spurs fans so we are all used to being patient haha. We’ll look back on these threads in 15 years time and laugh as we lift the CL trophy to complete the quadruple. It’ll be beautiful and hopefully worth the wait.

The fans could make it really uncomfortable for them if they really wanted to.
I think if fans were allowed in the stadium this might start to happen, I can see next a groundswell of angry fan's voicing their resentment and distrust towards levy, it has been a long time coming there are only so many fuck ups we can take.
