interest take, whats so angry about my interactions? Everything i've talked about in this thread has been long held beliefs. look i just want to talk footy and you're constant underhanded comments arent helpful.
I think he might struggle at the top level as a centre back. He's good in the air but a bit slow on the turn. He would need to get his positioning spot on.

Interested to see how Jose sees him and how best to use him but I believe at the level we are aiming for he could be a useful utility player rather than making any spot his own.

Half the guy’s arguments end with a condescending “ok”. I appreciate him as a poster but I’ll never personally engage with because of that.

Why do you do that? You’d be much more respected if you didn’t. I appreciate your input most of the time but every time I see you gaslight an argument like that it’s grating. Carry on though I guess

Christ I'm having a laugh and why do I want to be respected on here, it's a bit of fun for me.

You might be having a laugh but for someone who spends half his life on here do you really want to be such a pariah? We’re all rooting for the same thing but I digress. Cheers.

maybe I should say CB is his best position to play at the highest level.

100% it's disappointing everytime he responds to me like that because I know he can be one of the better well thought out posters.

The thing is Dier is adamant he's a CM which is deluded. He's definitely not a modern CDM, he's not got quick enough feet, enough skills, he's not dynamic enough. He lacks in too many areas for him to ever be a top level player in there. Nope, not going to happen. Just compare someone like Fernandinho, Kante or Fabinho to Dier.

Well that's clearly something that bothers you, don't worry about me - you do you thank for the advice though ?

Spot on. I'd add Ndidi to that list to.

Right move to take him off tonight when Jose did. I feel for him. Hopefully, it doesn't dent his confidence too much as I think he will still have an important role to play for us as the season progresses.

Really seemed to take the substitution well. Was impressed with that and Mourinho's comments after the game. Hopefully a sign that the players have bought into Mourinho's ethos already.

He's hardly played over the last 18 months or so. Plenty of rust to be knocked off yet.

I'm sure he'll still get some games at DM/CB across the season, I don't think he was thrown under the bus at all. José will still value a team player with Dier's attributes.

Dier was a very good DM when we had two fullbacks bombing on. He dropped in to make it a back three.. therefore we were pretty secure. Buying Wanyama was a good choice, cos he was a specialist in DM. Not someone who easily dropped in to make a back three tho. Big Vic did most of his work in the middle of the park, also being a threat from corners and scoring a couple. Dier could then be played in a conventional back three with Toby and Jan.. This gave us quite a few options.. Vic’s injury woes, added with Dier’s own problems, has left us severely lacking. Add Dembele’s loss to the squad too. It’s a shame both Dier and Vic hit injury’s around the same time. It also begs the question as to why Poch never tried for this type of player again. Dier type, or Vic type.. It has left us open. I like Dier, and as a Spurs fan I want him to come good, but I think it’s still a position that we can certainly improve in. Jose’s thing of one fullback pushing on, and the other sitting to make the three, kind of negates Dier’s role. What we need is a new Vic, and Jan or Davies at LB. Or switch it over to have Foyth RB, and Sess push on from the left. I guess we’ll see in time how it goes.

lol - the mind games have begun. That was 100% a 'play shit and I'll hook you' message regardless of any arms around shoulders afterwards.

That wasn't just for Dier.

Did feel bad for him last night though because, as Jose said, it could easily have been Winks or one of the CBs that could have gone off instead. Had to laugh at Expressions on YT though calling Dier a "fridge with wheels".

Having said that, I really hope we find a proper DM because the only natural one we have Wanyama is not up to it anymore unfortunately.

This is the thing that I dont get. Surely Poch could see that we are badly lacking a dm.
Its almost Arsenal like to not see that your entire defence is suffering and going from bad to worse but do absolutely nothing about it.
Not in anyones wildest dreams could anyone think that Winks and Sissoko are going to be capable of doing the same job as Wanyama/Dier and Dembele.
Maybe thats what the formation change was about, to try and deal with that but changing the entire teams very succesful philosophy to try and cover a shortfall in one position would be bonkers.

A match fit and confident Dier can be an important member of our squad. In the past his ability to drop in and form a back 3 has helped our shape a lot.
Hopefully getting over last year's illnesses will see a return to form soon.
Be interesting to see how Jose uses him.
I was pleased to see a change last night as it wasn't working, passes going astray and putting ourselves under pressure. Dier was the only one but he can't complain too much
