Dier is good back up. No more and no less.

Not sure Jose sees it that way so once Toby departs he'll need a top quality CB next to him if we're going to progress.

Hes just not a top centre back.

Dodgy in the air, loses his man constantly at set pieces, has a golden mistake in him every game and loses the ball regularly.

Hes still not a bad centre back, just not good enough for any team with title ambitions.

He doesn't always lose out under pressure, but often does- like on Wednesday- but this is the sort of thing you'd think he could learn, with the help of Ledley or someone- how to position yourself to win these duels. He's been playing midfield until this season so still learning on the job basically.

I hate hating Spurs players. I am usually the one backing a losing cause such as Bobby hitting the net from open play or Andros crossing the ball, but it shows how bad this situation is because my loathing of everything Harry Winks doesnt do has been surpassed by my loathing of this idiot. Cometh the hour cometh the man. As some posters have said Jose protects the defence hence why so few goals against come from open play but when it comes down to defending a whipped in cross/FK/corner - old Leadboots/Shirley Temple fails us. Watch a clip of Everton/Newcastle/Fulham - but there must be others.
p.s. the last player I hated like this was Hundredstone I watched Forehead run at him at Stoke (I think) and push him over. Most fans love Hojbjerg so you will get me on this.
p.p.s soz about the rant shipmates but since Fulham the red mist hasnt dropped

It must be a Portuguese thing Dier's allowed to make mistakes and still keep his place..although he certainly has improved.

Thought there was a handful of times he could’ve taken the ball down on his chest instead of heading it straight back to them or into a 50/50 and also a bit of a lack of composure clearing it a couple of times when he could’ve taken a touch. I liked the look of Rodon though thought he looked the better CB. Wouldn’t mind seeing him with Alderweireld as a pair.

Think it’s a bit strong to hate a spurs player?

Personally I’d only hate someone who has hurt someone dear to me. Or Sol Campbell.

It isn’t just Dier’s ability that gets him on pitch, Jose has said before he needs more warriors and spirit on the pitch and you don’t get more warrior and spirited than Dier lol.

Why does everyone seem to think Eric is slow?

I have seen a few interviews over the years since he's been here where people have said he is one of the quickest at the club, he may look slow as he is a tall big lad but once he opens his stride up he's pretty quick.

When he gets going he is quick, but it takes him a bit time to get going.

Not quick at acceleration or agility/reactions but possibly quick top speed, that's how I see it.

What is his problem with dealing with crosses? I feel like if you sling enough his way he’ll eventually fail to deal with it. It’s becoming a regular occurrence now. Feel like most of the goals we concede now come from him being weak when dealing with delivery from wide. And yes Lloris could’ve asserted himself in that situation as well but a dominant, assertive centre-back deals with that. So poor. Don’t understand why it’s not being addressed either by his own improvement or by taking him out of the team.
