All credit to Eric, he has turned his career around. Maybe he can play a key role in turning this club around
It certainly seems he makes defenders around him better players
I am so looking forward to the Burnley game now. Yes, yes, I know ???

Never thought I'd say it but my God we've missed him. He's a commander and makes a huge difference to our defence.
Doesnt help when the back ups are frankly dog shit either.
As a lot of people have been saying, our first 11 is quite good, our squad is terrible.

Absolute quality tonight, to think he’s been out for a few weeks and then turns up and put’s that performance in.
Proper warrior.?

Incredible presence for us, he really knits the backline together. If he and Romero stay healthy, we have a really good chance at Top 4.

Pretty mad how important he's become for us since Conte has arrived.

We looked SO much more calm and assured at the back today compared with the past couple of matches and he was a huge part of that.

A bit like David Luiz, he's not brilliant in a 2 but looks absolutely tailor made for playing in the back of a 3 under Conte. I've been really impressed with his passing range and accuracy - it must be something he's worked on as he's been pulling them off much more consistently this season.

This is not meant to be a post to take a shit on Sanchez, but we have to make a comparison due to the upturn in performance.

In possession with Dier and Romero we have two ball players to open up the pitch. Watch the first goal, the floated ball from Romero to Davies never gets played by Sanchez.

And in defence Romero is so much more decisive, more aggressive. Without Dier he has to marshal the defence which goes against his natural inclinations.

Dier has the maturity to sit and arrange and bolster those around him. He's so very important to our other defenders.

Can’t believe our defence is transformed when Dier plays CB in our back 3.

Fair play to him to nailing his colours to the mast 2 years ago saying he wants to be a CB end of and working his ass off to improve, he’s a leader and he’s really improved massively under Jose and then now under conte in a back 3 it suits him down to a tee.

I thought we’d always need to upgrade him but if he keeps playing like this then we won’t find many better as city are one of best teams in the world and he blocked and headed everything today.

I think Dier and Romero are a duo... I think Dier controls Romero and makes him a less rash and more composed defender. But i also think Romero allows Dier to play his game

Youre right about the ball playing but think it is slightly overplayed, Sanchez isnt great but Romero on the right side is simply better.

I think only the 2nd time they have played together under Conte. I genuinely wouldnt meddle with those two and even Davies I wouldnt but if Di Vrij comes then I guess Davies will rotate

I think that role in the centre of the 3 centrebacks fits him like a glove.

Who better to play there than a player who's alternated between centreback and defensive midfielder throughout his career. Its like a DM role but closer to the backline.

Thats why he seems very comfortable in that position.

Thoughts on De Vrij if Dier keeps up this level and importance to our success?
It’s a tough one, would De Vrij fit in on the left of the three? We clearly need competent back up to Dier as we look lost without him, if De Vrij is an upgrade on Davies in his position then surely he comes in and plays there and rotates with Davies and Dier.

Yeah, it’s what I’m not sure of. Obviously having two generals is cool, but they will both want to be playing regularly and that can’t happen if their best position is central. Add in De Vrij being older, and he still will warrant a decent fee even if he’s on one year remaining in his contract, it’s a bit of a conundrum.

I guess having them both would be a nice problem to have.

Been my favourite player for many years. Just love everything he stands for. Every squad needs an Eric Dier.
