He might bleed Spurs but he is shit. He shouldn't be anywhere near our squad. Not really a good leader, just a normal guy who seems quite nice.
Remember the start of last season. He was playing well enough to get into the England World Cup squad. He wasn’t shit then.
He then picks up an injury and needs an op. Rather than take that however he plays on to help the team, only to get slaughtered as his performance drops. Im not saying he should be first choice but he’s a good squad player and I’d be more than happy for him to stay. Some of the stick he gets on here is disgraceful.

Don't know if you've been to a match recently but it's not just online where people are giving him abuse.

People don't think hes a good player because he is not a good player. It's not fair to abuse him I guess, but the point is the fans know he is not good enough and that's it. I normally wouldn't mind an average player like him taking up a squad spot but I think he is uniquely tied to the last 3 failing regimes that it should probably mean he gets ruthlessly culled because he is seen as some sort of leader and he has been underperforming for the majority of the last 5 years.

I remember start of last season I tried to explain to everyone he isn't very good and we should upgrade. He had a decent end to 21-22 when we were flying but really he was hidden in that 3ATB. He just isn't good, he has too much influence over the squad and needs to be removed just like Lloris.

Poor year last year but what player didn't have one? Why has every coach we've had pick him? Are they that bad at spotting talent? Our system of play invited way too much pressure on him and all of the backs last year. Add playing thru injury makes it all the more understandable. Starter? I sure hope not. Squad player? I suspect so. Let's wait and see what Ange has to say on him. If Ange picks him, well, then...........

Sitting on the sofa with the wife reading this thread on my tablet, whilst she watches TV. She looks across and catches Phil's message above and she says 'If that's Phil_2.0's opinion, I dread to think what Phil_1.0's was' :D

I don't think that our match going fans are any better barometer or what is correct having booed one other of our own players to literal tears. Anyone chucking about the abuse, especially in person, can all get to fuck as far as I'm concerned. They're an embarrassment and I'd see them all shipped out and the seats empty or refilled before we move on Eric Dier.

Personally I'll trust the opinion of Ange, even if that's to get him out of the club, because he knows more about football than I or any of us do. But he won't ship him out, like Jose and Conte didn't, because he'll understand the value that some of our apparent support don't seem willing to admit to, in that he has value to the club in more than one area, and that it's not all about 1v1's vs season-of-his-life Marcus Rashford.

When Conte was hired he was put back in the starting lineup and he looked solid. But since the start of last season he's been the worst individual player at the club. Mistake after mistake. You need to ask yourself why that is.

Conte was hired midseason. He put us in a back 3 and changed the way we played. Teams weren't used to Conte's Spurs. Without much time to prepare from match to match we caught teams off guard and it got us back in the top 4.

Then the offseason happened. Plenty of time then. Mangers talk and figured out Dier was the weak link. He was attacked relentlessly and exposed just like he was under Mourinho and Poch. Excuses were made just like they always are with him. The truth is he was always a mediocrity.

He became famous here as a defensive midfielder that Poch inserted into the starting lineup because we had nobody else that could play the position at the time. He played directly in the middle of Vertonghen, Alderweireld, and Dembele. My border collie could probably do that and look good. He owes his entire career to those 3.

Poch thought so much of him that Wanyama was bought in that offseason to replace him. The upgrade was immediate and noticeable (at least until his knees exploded).

His time at the club should be at an end. He's not good enough to play here. It's the most obvious thing in the world and it's not about his last season here it's about his last 10 years here.

I appreciate that he seems to be a nice guy and seems to love the club but that's definitely not enough for me. Millions of people love the club and 99.9999% of us aren't anywhere near good enough to play for us just like Eric Dier.

Well the online fans hate him, the match going fans hate him, the fans just hate him and its because they've seen him play poorly pretty consistently for Tottenham for the last 5 or 6 years.

You're holding up the fact that Jose and Conte picked him as evidence of Dier being good when outside of 6 months at the start of Conte we played miserably under both managers?

I think the reason we are holding onto him is because nobody wants him and we can't get shot of him, and Dier has this high opinion of himself and thinks he should be playing for a top 6 side and run the dressing room.

If anyone important valued him at the club they would have given him a new deal.

Loved him when he first came in and all the years under poch. Fitted really well into our team at that time.

But I think he's well overstayed now. If we want to do a proper rebuild and let Ange do his thing he needs to go. I'd rather have someone new as 3rd/4th choice CB options than the likes of Dier/Davies.

Bizarre honestly, just inviting abuse
That’s that sad state of spurs fan base that a guy that’s has played 361 times for the club would get abused over a documentary.

Personally, I saw the trailer and I am looking forward to seeing it

Imagine listening to the opinions of any "fan" who actually "hates" one of their own players.

I'm just absolutely done with how utterly awful so much of the football population is these days. Just an endless parade of anonymous internet kids, ignorant foreigners and horrible old men who should know better, spouting off their bile into the ether in a never-ending tide of abusive, worthless chatter, "hating" people who've only ever tried their best for the club.

We've genuinely got some of the worst fans in the game at our club. Go to the stadium and it's constant shouting and swearing and abuse. I always wanted to take my kids to Spurs but sod doing that with what's heard there these days. Go online and it's even worse, with every single post by the club getting jumped on with abuse for Levy, Dier, Lloris, whoever, no matter what it's actually about. Go to a pub and watch a game and it's shit-faced "lads" drinking £6 piss swearing at the tv, or moaning old men who have nothing else of interest in their lives but abusing their own club. We boo our own players, our own managers, our own owners, and we even do it when they've just been asked to come on as a sub and not even entered the pitch yet.

What a toxic fanbase. It's a genuine wonder any player even wants to come here.

Stuff like this thread and the response on social media to the Dier advert is why I can only tolerate football outside of matches in short bursts these days. So much negativity and hatred, over absolutely nothing. Imagine living your life like that.

Love the post. Years ago, you supported any player that gave his all for the badge. If a guy sucked, he sucked and you said it but you would still emphasize all the positive that he did hoping he would turn it around. Doubt Rafael would say this any more about Spurs.

But Tottenham is pure football and pure people... nice, warm people. That's why I like Tottenham. And everybody who comes to the stadium can smell the history.

I was at every game last season, your comment about him being poor since the start of the season is untrue.

He rightfully won his place back in the England squad. He didn't start making errors until Liverpool at home, which was around October/November.

He actually made less errors than romero. Still why let facts get in the way of anything.

Our club really needs to read the room on this one, a documentary about sonny, hugo, harry I could understand, but one about a player who is clearly with low popularity amongst the supporters (just look at any social media post related to dier) is senselessly mindless.
I randomly heard about this project last summer through a close friend who knows someone involved in production. When he told me about it he said the doc is meant to reveal a pretty major health issue from a few seasons back which would explain why he was absent for so long.
When i saw the promo for it last night i messaged him that it was finally being released. He replied it centres around his desire to get back in the England fold but they sat on it for months because his form fell off a cliff when he did.
I can only think they are releasing this now because off season is seen as safer territory for the narrative?
