The lad isn’t shit and would improve most PL teams and therefore would be a good choice for BM.
Those first four words are the issue. He isn't shit but he isn't that good either. Players don't get criticism for no reason, there is always some truth behind it. For me the issue is that he makes some of the worst decisions at CB. Long passes to nobody, headers that go up but not out, shanking clearances (even the other day v Bournemouth he somehow gave them a corner clearing a ball away that you would expect to fly up the pitch), short passes to nobody like he did v Wolves which ended up costing us our lead, he switches off completely at times and people run in and score in front or behind him, he makes fundamental errors like when he headed to Mo Salah to score last season at the TH. He is slow and cumbersome, cannot turn quickly and if a striker gets half a yard on him you just know they are getting a shot in.
Even those games where he was superb for 60, 70 minutes there always seemed to be a point where he would lose concentration and do something moronic to cost us a goal. Let's not forget how many goals we shipped last year. We were so easy to score against it was becoming a joke, we would be all over a team, they would have one attack and we were a goal down. I'm not saying it was all down to him but he was there week-in week -out unable to do anything about it.
The truth is that he was barely fit for purpose in a defensive set up with two other CBs to share the load and in this Ange system every inadequacy he has would be fully exposed. He needs a team set up to play to his strengths- I heard Gary O'Neill talking about Craig Dawson and how Wolves make sure the other defenders protect him from getting exposed by getting around him, allowing him to use his aerial and blocking attributes but not having to chase down speed merchants.
Dier has been a good servant to Spurs but he hit his expiry date long ago and I am relieved that we have a manager who can see that. If Poch had come back he would probably be on a new contract to 2029 and skippering the side right now! Lord knows how he will do in Germany but that's their issue. I have no beef with ED, he is a lovely fella by all accounts. I wish him all the best and we move on with the players we have.

Well the positive for Dier is that Bayern always get their man and don't ever lead a player on and then leave him high and dry...

£4 million

What a return on that investment.

Great service. Good player. Top man.

Personally, I’d be happy to have him as a squad player but that does seem to be waste of his time and talent. Can’t understand the vitriol he gets.

We've done this too much with players IMO, time to really push on and improve the squad, a refresh is long overdue.

Yeah makes sense to move Dier on, especially since he doesn’t really have a place in Ange’s system. If we can replace him with a younger player better suited to the way we want to play, then I don’t see why we would want to keep him.

That’s no slight to Dier, it’s just things move on.

Yep, time to put a proper succession plan in place and start acting like a well run club on the football side, I'll always wish players well (bar Ndombele) but they know the score in this industry, and as a club we've been lazy, ignorant and lacking knowledge (at board level)in refreshing things since those infamous 2018 transfer windows.

Been one of my favourite players for a long time, but we are in a very different position as a club and clearly fallen out of favour, so wishing him all thr very best for the future

Yeah I was a bit surprised with all the goodbye messages on here when it was evident he was one of several options.

Because of the goals he's given the opposition by turning over the ball. Single handedly the most frustrating Spurs player I've seen the past decade

I don't think it is unreasonable for fans to not want to see him play given for the last 3-4 years (first half of conte stint aside) he has been terrible and a big reason why we have leaked so many goals and for them to criticize him given that his performances have warranted criticism.

There's a fine line between that and abuse (which I obviously do not condone) but I think you can wish him well, thank him for his service, and also realize that he is a massive liability and be glad to see the back of him in a footballing sense. No need for any revisionism of the last few years.

He was fantastic for Conte until his injury, earning an England call up and deservedly so.

Why wade in, stinking the thread out again, when people are saying their goodbyes? It's like objecting during someone's eulogy, something only a massively self-centred bellend would do.

I don’t see anybody “wading in”. People have different opinions of him that’s all. Live and let live ffs.

I mentioned the Conte stint, where he was good, in amongst 4 years of absolute calamity.

This is a public forum. I saw people having a go at others for not worshipping the ground he walked on now that he's leaving, and I said my piece. As I said, no abuse towards him is ok, but others are allowed to not be particularly fond of him after the last few years. That's what makes public forums great; differing opinions, snide comments aside.

I loved Etic Dier .. he gave his all. Yes he made some mistakes in games and no different to any other player. I'll be happy for him if he gets the Bayern move. He deserves to ve playing and not sitting on a bench getting the odd 10minute cameo.
