2 doesn't make up for 50 not going above knee high does it

Sheesh, tough crowd

I'd say his multiple goals from free-kicks somewhat make up for this apparent & unacceptable lack of crossing ability? Or maybe this?

Well, actually I think its mostly down to himself.

All his coaches throughout his career have had trouble keeping him out of the lineup since he broke into the Ajax team, wich already seems ages ago.

Off the bat, half of the coaches he has had in his senior career are here at Tottenham (2 @ Ajax, 1 NT vs AVB, Sheerwood and Poch). So for a young boy/man to arrive in London, being as "shy" (read private) as he is, stability is a pretty well proven imporatnt ingreedient. He is starting to get that now both on and off the pitch for the first time while here IMO.

This is literally as much off the pitch as on, in this case. Not to make any unfair compariosons, but I think Lamelas issue might be that he hasnt quite adapted as quick, to the mania that is London, as well as Eriksen, yet.

He has played straight through seasons since he was 17, without a break if I recall correctly, having been on national duty (senior and/or youth), with his first break this summer. And in came Poch, so that can always be debated :)

Anyways, judging by interviews, he seems to have the same training mentality as he did when 16, so thats good I guess. Takes quite the c*** of a coach to mismanage a talent like that.

Poch might have language barriers, but I know he recognizes talent and to me actually comes off as being caple in the squad management department. So stability seems to form, which I am sure will spread further throughout the squad in the comming months.

That IS surely mainly down to Poch, but on the field actions, I think is mostly down to himself.

Wow, this got long. Of course im not saying Poch doesnt matter or deserves respect. I guess im saying that the next step is his to make/take - it doesnt have much to do with what happens on the training ground. And I think he is starting to take it.

That's a very fair post, and it was wrong of me to not suggest he played his own part in his obvious improvement. As you say, he's a naturally shy type of character, and last season must've been a bloody nightmare for him to deal with mentally. So kudos to you for pointing that out (y)

Of course I got my red/white Danish glasses on, but heres an example why I say this: In early interviews, both in Danish and British, he consitantly spoke of himself in third person. As of lately he has started to refer to himself as, well himself. (actually says "I" instead of "you" and so forth)

...and I do know its utterly ridiculous to base anything on stuff like that, but hey, here we go its the interwebs and all :)

I guess it came across wrong, I think he's probably our best player especially when it comes down to the business end of the game, just saying his corners aren't usually very good is all

I hear you loud and clear fella (y) .. What you've described/explained, is also one of the main reasons I've been so worried about us losing Vertonghen. Yes I know his head/form went to shit, but it's absolutely not a secret that, whilst at Ajax, Eriksen looked upto Vertonghen as a father figure/mentor. I'm sure you'll remember Eriksen saying he wanted to leave when Vertonghen left, but Vertonghen told the lad he's not ready & should give it another year so he could mature. Sure enough, Eriksen signed a new contract so as the club that made him wouldn't lose out financially when he did leave (his words not mine), knuckled down for another 12 months and then made the switch (which I believe was always going to happen as soon as we signed Vertonghen).

No matter what anyone's opinion of how this improvement came around is, it can't be ignored that we are bloody lucky to have this kid on our books.

And you have a valid point. I was merely pointing out that his positives far outweigh his negatives (y) ..

Like you, I struggle to see how he can't beat the first man when taking a corner, but can clear a whole fucking wall and find the back of the net when taking a free-kick?

I'm just gonna blame it on the 'slope' that lot's of 'corner quadrants' appear to have. You don't get those around the edge of the area ;)

Just imagine if he had someone remotely close to him intelligence wise in the CM slot. We'd be perfect.

I actually forgot that, but thanks for the reminder :) And I think you are spot on, Verthongen adds alot to the changing room (so does Fazio I personally think, but thats a point for another thread). And IMO there is no doubt that Verts was instrumental in bringing Eriksen here. I truely hope that Lloris, Verts and Eriksen give each other at least another 2 seasons together, but I fear I am being unrealistic and romantic.

Personally I am not afraid of Eriksen moving on - he will be the first to say that he needs to add another level to his game. It is Verthongen and Lloris that worry me, but from what I can read on here, as elsewhere, they seem to be loving life in London, so hopefully that will keep them around a season or 2 extra - one can hope. Also that they buy into Poch' project/philosophy/isms/etc if they havent already.

I think those stats are somewhat skewed by the fact he started very slowly last season. From the point Sherwood took the reigns off her looked better and grew stronger each week.

I don't think that is it - he has improved this season. His intensity on the pitch is so much better/more focused now than it was at the beginning of the season. He is not ready to put in a full shift as a defensive winger anytime soon, but he tracks back better, closes down better, and occasionally gets stuck in.

Still room for improvement, but I'd say he has made big progress from the free reign he was given under Sherwood, to the more disciplined role he has to play under Pochettino.

sorry....

Last season was his first in PL, and he spent a few months adjusting, which is reflected in the stats. This season, no adjustment period.
