Gareth is not on the bench because he wasn't happy with his training session yesterday. I wouldn't say an injury, not at all, but some feelings he wasn't happy with, so it was better for him to stay back and to be working with the sports science guys.

TEAM FORM: - Everton - WDLWD ------- Spurs - WLLLW -------- (All competitions)

A highly-anticipated all-Premier League clash in the fifth round of the FA Cup takes place on Wednesday as Everton welcome us to Goodison Park. The hosts head into this bout after rescuing a draw at Manchester United, while we comfortably returned to winning ways over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League's weekend matches.

Ancelotti was understandably lost for words after Everton's pulsating 3-3 with Man United at the weekend, with Calvert-Lewin poking home in the fifth minute of injury time to rescue a point for the Toffees at Old Trafford. Despite managing to win just one of their last four Premier League matches, Ancelotti's side are firmly in the hunt for a Champions League berth and are only 3 points behind bitter rivals Liverpool having played two fewer matches, but their recent form has been wholly inconsistent to say the least. A below-par Toffees team needed extra time to overcome Rotherham United in the third round of the FA Cup, but Ancelotti's side had no such problems against Sheffield Wednesday last time out as they cruised to a 3-0 triumph over the Championship outfit to set up a tie with Tottenham. By advancing to the fifth round of the tournament, Everton have already achieved their best finish since the 2015-16 campaign - where Man United knocked them out in the last four - and Ancelotti can afford to go for broke before the visit of a relegation-threatened Fulham at the weekend. The Goodison Park faithful would love nothing more than for Ancelotti to mark his impressive start to life at Everton with a piece of silverware, and they can feel confident about their chances of giving Tottenham an excellent run for their money given the visitors' recent spell of form.

Everton's first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford continues to struggle with a rib injury and may not return in time for this game, which would mean another start for the equally unconvincing Robin Olsen. James Rodriguez came off with a tight calf at Old Trafford and may not be risked in this fixture, but Allan could make his eagerly-anticipated return after getting back into training.Seamus Coleman, Yerry Mina and Alex Iwobi could all be among an expected reshuffle from Ancelotti this week.

Mourinho could not deny that we were glad to have Kane back after his return helped to inspire us to victory over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday lunchtime. He marked his comeback with a goal and witnessed his strike partner Son also find the back of the net on the day, as a 2-0 victory ended our three-game losing run in the Premier League after a torrid fortnight. Mourinho had been forced to watch us lose to Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea without Kane leading the line, but the talisman's quicker-than-expected return has lifted the spirits of everyone at the club as er look to keep our pursuit of a top-four spot alive. We have already struck nine times in the 2020-21 FA Cup after crushing victories at Marine and Wycombe Wanderers, although they we were not all that convincing for the first 80 minutes against the latter, and Mourinho will not be prepared to accept any complacency given that we could have a prime opportunity to end our 13-year trophy drought this season. Calvert-Lewin's header condemned us to a1-0 defeat when we locked horns in the Premier League back in September, but Everton have not beaten us on home turf since the 2012-13 Premier League season.

It remains to be seen if the boss will be willing to risk Kane twice in the space of a week, especially with Manchester City to come at the weekend, so Vinicius may be chosen to spearhead our attack. Dele would be expected to earn some minutes this weekend but remains doubtful with a tendon problem, while it is still too soon for Reguilon and Lo-Celso to return to the fold. Dier was dropped to face West Brom after giving away a penalty in the defeat to Chelsea but could return here, while Bale and Bergwijn will both hope to impress out wide after underwhelming displays in recent matches.

Wow... if Jordan Pickford has a rib injury does that mean Everton's backup keeper has spare ribs?

I don't think Mourinho will rest Kane for Saturday as he knows that it's not very likely that we will get a result there anyway, maybe a point if we are very lucky, Man City are playing some of the best football in Europe at the moment. Better focus on Everton and try to get as far as possible in the FA Cup, Wolfsberger for the EL and West Ham and pray that you can nick something at the Etihad.

Goodison is a great ground shame its not going to be full and the FA Cup hadn't been diminished like it has - which the Premier League has been responsible for

Remember being up there in 83 when we got beat think we had about 5,000 up there that day great atmosphere the ground was literally shaking - I think we got beat 2-1 Gibson smashed one against the under side of the bar which would have got us a replay.

Wonder what they are doing with all the Everton minst they used to throw into the crowd before the game

Yeah I was at that game also. We had won the cup the previous two seasons so was the first FA Cup defeat I had seen.

Presumably no replays if it's a draw after 90 minutes?

Tbh, we might need to take this lot to penalties.

They’re a good side and we’ll need to be at it. Hopefully Rodriguez doesn’t make it.

Just want to see a performance like we had on Sunday. Obviously want us to win but if we dont but we played well and either beaten by the better team or we are just unlucky then so be it.

History is against us in this tie. Our record in this competition against good sides since 91 is wretched. Apart from Leicester in their title winning season, and Liverpool back in the 90s, we always lose when we play capable teams in the cup.
Not saying we can't win this- we've got the players. But we're going have to turn around the juggernaut of history, which suggests that Everton are big favourites. If we win, it will be one of our best moments in the cup for three decades.
