Really quite sad quotes in the guardian about him considering his future due to losing 3 close friends in such a short space of time...

It really is. Working for us (or maybe anyone right now) will be more of a frustration and distraction rather than the joy and passion that it should be. You can see the fire isn't burning so hot at the moment.

As he says, Conte is the kind who will always try to put 100% into everything. His job, bringing up his family, loving his wife, enjoying his friends and his football. If any of that feels like only 99% effort he won't be happy. I think a lot of us on here could relate to that, maybe not the football or job, but especially when family or friends are involved.

To be that far away from his family and probably Gian Piero's family during this time must just fucking suck tbh.

It's probably time others like me who've been Conte out over the past couple of months (and feel pretty stupid right now), consider getting fully back behind him and show him the respect he's given us by sticking with us during this hard time for him. Credit is in the bank and it's also the decent and right thing to do.

It's pretty clear he could do with some support at the moment in his personal life from his colleagues and superiors, and he's even called it out in public, so I hope Levy had a meeting with him straight after this and asked him if he needs any time off or help. At a time like this maybe it would be a great idea to just give the guy a month off.

Levy, just support a manager, in some fucking way at least.

What I never understood was why, on the back on multiple losses, we never gave him compassionate leave and let Mase take couple of the fixtures, etc.
Probably because Conte wouldn't want time off. He'd probably rather just throw himself into his work, whether that's a sensible thing or not, football is his life.

Thanks for sharing the info on some of things going in the background with Conte. Really sad and unfortunate. Can't really see him signing a new contract. So, as others have said, is there any point in buying players that don't suit a future manager's system? As painful as it may be, if Conte is going to go, we should only be signing players that will suit a more conventional/popular system or multiple systems (i.e. a proper centre back and perhaps a creative midfielder). Everything else should probably wait.

Well there is one way to keep.him in this, even if he's questioning things.

Seriously back him and tell him he is wanted here.

He may then be able to gain some determination to succeed for the losses he's had.

I think it's deeper than that.

He has lost 3 close friends and misses his family. No job in the world is more important than family

You haven't met my family. I'd love to work 500 miles away from the brats ????
I love my 2 kids (boys aged 8 and 5) and miss them when away with work for a couple of nights a week but my God it can be a relief to get a break from them and the missus ?

Back to Conte - I feel for him, losing 3 friends must be a huge blow to him. I do feel that he is a person who will throw himself into his job and he is probably too proud to ask for a couple of weeks off. Doesn't matter how much he earns, he is a human being for gods sake.

Just makes me even more of the belief that he needs to be cut some more slack. Arguably the biggest problem he has had recently has been him being unable to play Bentancur, Kulu and Richy because of injury and because the squad is thin on quality - the terrible form of Son and the increasing errors of Lloris are just the cherry on the cake.

Lets get Porro and Zaniolo in and things could look very different in a few months time.....

He is probably heading back to Italy after this season, if not before. It's a difficult situation, but we have to be forward thinking this window and for the rest of the season. He may have already made a decision to leave and it's just being kept behind the scenes. We have a couple of cups and a top 4 spot to compete for and fair dues to him if he's planning to leave but wants a tilt at these objectives.

This is where a DoF and chairman must have a solid succession plan in place. I'd prefer if we dropped this 3 centre-halves formation because it isn't working. But if we're proceeding without Conte, they can't go on a big splurge for very specialist positions that may not be used in 6 months time.

He's emotional and passionate, he cares a lot about his friends and especially family, new quotes 100% confirm he's going back to Italy, was obvious anyway. Club has to choose if sacking now is better, they will probably wait until after the Fulham game and see how close to top 4 we are. Maybe after AC Milan. If Levy wants Poch he can wait, if it's true that Dan KP is Levy's PR then we want Tuchel and will probably get him before Summer. Whatever happens this year, he overachieved last season and I will follow his career after he leaves.

I wouldn’t say they ? confirm it but it does seem more likely now yes and who’d blame him for football and personal reasons.

I genuinely think Conte wants to be here a d cares about the club, why on earth would he bother going to war with Levy, why not just walk? Most people who didn't care would just walk
i hate to say it but if i had a 10-15 mil quid contract, i'd wait it out regardless of how miserable i was.... Either that or wait to be fired. If the writing is on the wall, why would i give up that money, i've dealt with enough bs, might as well wait it out.

I hope he stays and we give him what he needs and we get going but I just don't see it happening

Nah I wouldn’t say they 100% confirm anything. It’s more reads like him thinking out loud. He’s simply discussing how better to navigate a work life balance.

Whatever happens we know he’ll work as hard as he can to make a success of this season so I don’t see him being sacked.

Exactly, there's a very good chance he's already told the club privately he'll honour his contract then ciao.

He clearly wants to spend more time with his family, losing 3 friends in such a short amount of time is devastating and changes you. Now I feel like a moron for chatting shit about his Spurs management this season. He is only human after all and has to grieve, like all of us.

Appreciate that almost nobody expects us to win tonight but it will be more about the performance. And if we are terrible tonight then I hope a decision is made before Fulham. If losing badly against Fulham is what it takes to make his mind up that is one thing but not how far we are off top 4 (how would this influence your decision - we are close - don't sack. We are miles off - now sack so his replacement has no chance ?l)

And I will be absolutely livid but sadly unsurprised if, as I said previously in this thread, we wait until we have lost the first leg against Milan. That's what the script says and we'll all be thinking...if only he made the decision at the start of Jan or even after the Arse game or Citeh

I think he will return to Italy. The personal trauma of losing three close friends has clearly caused him to rethink his priorities, alongside him missing his wife and daughter, leads me to think that regardless of Levy backing him or not he will leave Spurs.

This almost feels like a convenient and amicable context for a mutuality agreed parting in the summer.

"I work a lot for the club and for this reason the club want me to stay for a long period."

Is this the first we have heard him say the club want him to stay?

Well he's started a wider conversation. I think he's right although the timing of it was unfortunate.
