teams have worked out how to play against us when do west ham sit back when they are at home.
Think we are going to struggle massively against arse and city away were gonna have no possession at all, def need to beat Fulham as cant see us getting anything from the 2 away games
We need bodies in today, I think Conte was making a point again by only bringing one sub on when we looked leggy

I know memories are short nowadays but it was last season. They did it all game when we went there.

Apologies if i've missed it but did Conte provide an explanation for Bryan and Lucas' absence?

I can't shake the feeling that either Conte is going to voice his unhappiness soon, or something is in the works before tonight's deadline.

Agree. The subs screamed 'I still don't think I've got enough options' to me...

I'm hoping it's the latter still, as I don't think Conte appeared to be particularly exasperated last night. I'm just not sure he'd want to go into this season with 2/6 attacking options he's not willing to use with any confidence.

I’m actually pissed with Conte here. Royal is pathetic on the ball, he should only be deployed when we are more focused on pack it up and defend (like against the big 6 away). Add sanchez to that, and our right side cant produce ONE fucking forward pass. Davies also struggles with the ball and is weak in decision-making. Dier is frustrating when not having ball-playing defenders next to him, and don’t let me get started on Lloris. If Conte wants to play his way, fairs, but these players just don’t fit this style of play. When Romero + Lenglet join the defense line with Doherty or Spence (players who can actually pass a damn ball and are comfortable with it on their feet), we will see a much improved performance with the ball. But again, Royal just isn’t. Royal + Sanchez is a disaster waiting to happen with the ball. We need to improve so so much

I think that bringing Spence and Lenglet into the team at this point could weaken our defence, the Conte tactic demands defensive stability.

There is a valid argument that the upside of us being able to better retain possession brings a stability to defending of its own.

I think this is the end game for Conte as illustrated by the signing of Lenglet and our other targets. However he wants to show loyalty to the players that have delivered for him so far (which is important for squad morale).

The cream will rise to the top in due course and we will improve as the season progresses.

I think too many people overlook squad dynamics and morale and how it can affect performances and then results.

You can't just drop players like Sonny because they are going through a difficult patch at the start of a season, Sonny pretty much shot us into the CL on his own which enabled the club to attract and purchase the option of rotating him in the first place.

We have an example at Aston Villa of attempting to cast aside an influential player and the damage it can cause.

This is not a simulation.

Both still injured

“Lucas has inflammation in his tendon,” he added. “I hope he recovers soon. For sure, when I was a player, I had a lot of pain in my tendon and you know very well that an inflamed tendon doesn’t finish in only one week, two weeks. We hope he’s with us soon. Gil is not available, but in two or three days he will start to work again.”

Last season does not matter, it’s a new season and we just look crap. We’ve have half a game of football where we’ve played well. Our supposed world class forward line aren’t firing at all and we are trying to play i a system we just do not have the players for. We do not have the right ball playing cbs and we do not clearly have the right cbs. He’s trying to play out from the back with poor ball playing cbs and a gk who is not set up to do so.
we don’t press we don’t do anything.
son is horrendous yet he perseveres with him and takes Kulu off to play richie on the right where he’s ineffective.
Kane does not even seem to be able to strike a ball any more and only scores headers and one scuffed shot.
He doesn’t make subs when we are desperate, he talks about a squad game yet doesn’t use a squad.
He talks about suffering… yeah we are suffering because we played 3 days ago and you refuse to make subs.
He didn’t take hojberg off who clearly was not mobile any more, Emerson was doing absolutely zero going forward.
Our forward line are not firing? Son is a bit out of form but Kane has scored 4 goals already, so it’s maybe not fair to say he is not firing.

Romero will be back in soon so not to worry. I think we really under estimate his importance.
Agreed, his play out from the back really helps us get those direct balls into the forwards. Would definitely like to see Lenglet play as well to see how this would help open us up. Davies just doesn't have that cross field switch ball in his locker.

From here on out I just want to see us utilise our squad better. I'm not going to deny that I do find it a bit frustrating that despite our promising window, only one of our signings is starting regularly and that's even with us making these signings in good time to have them up to speed quicker. I would love to see Spence incorporated more as I think he'd add a new dimension and Richarlison would provide a presence, energy and threat that Son simply currently is not. Add the inclusion of Lenglet over Davies and the hopeful result of improved playing out from the back and really all in all we could be seeing so much better than what we witnessed last night.

I just know when the team news comes on Saturday that we will see mostly the same side though. Davies, Emerson and Son all still starting for example.

Is he even match fit?

Before forest I was wondering if Conte might use him in a forward area and was quite happy when he did. I do wonder now whether we might see him further forward as sub on occasion. He looked lively going forward that’s for sure.

I thought so too, especially in latter stages of matches. I just thought last night there would have been no harm in seeing him replace Son for example and having him switch sides with Richarlison. Just a bit disappointing in the way the game fizzled out and our lack of changes suggesting we were happy for it to do so. I mostly wish to see him at RWB though just because how much I feel we can lack on that side with Emerson.

Davinson and Emerson next to each other are a problem.

It really is telling, that one. Davies may not be a great progressive passer like Romero but he makes up for it by carrying the ball forward and getting into attacking positions to support his WB, whereas Davinson doesn't do either of those things.

I'd actually be interested in seeing Dier move over to the right if Romero is out next game and allowing Sanchez to be the anchor. He's looking much more mobile again and is a better passer. Either that or maybe give Tanganga a go. I know he's not been great in his last few outings but if he's staying for now then he needs to find a place in the team to be best used. Who knows, maybe he will finally kick on.

Did Conte play 4231 at any club?

I just realized there is a potential for very technical and fluid team, similar to what Arse/City are playing.

Richi
Son Kane Kulu
Benta Bissouma
Sess Lenglet Romero Djed
Lloris
