I would widen this to most players that have left us have won trophies

Foyth got a Europa league (and a WC medal)

Winning trophies in England is hard in the oligarch / oil state era
How many more can you name other than Foyth? ;)

I wouldn't be too bothered if we hadn't had our ITKs tell us this breakdown was happening a few weeks ago. Numerous solid sources have said there is basically no money to spend on players, so it's pretty obvious to me if we don't back Conte in January that he's going to leave. Why would he stay if he doesn't have the support of the club?
Have the ITKs said there is no money to spend or did they say we won’t be spending big money on players, may be wrong but thought it was the latter.

This is all so boring. We need stability. Ideally with Conte, but we can’t be going through this nonsense every six months. Having this all trotted out a week before the season resumes is less than ideal, to say the least.

As the linked piece says the Conte pantomime is the best chance we have of screwing enough financial backing out of ENIC to have any real chance of competing. It's annoying but I'd rather an ambitious manager than a content one.

So there has been reports we’ve got next to no money to spend in Jan? I must have missed that… but if that is true then no wonder Conte is thinking twice about signing an extension.

Arsenal, Newcastle & Chelsea already appear to be lining up big moves.
We are going to be left behind it’s clear. Why would Conte want to hang around for that?

This is part of why I can’t fully buy into the Conte Spurs dream: it all feels so temporary and conditional. Either he wants to be here or he doesn’t. Bored of these games (in every sense).

It’s exactly what we signed up for and the club is 100% to blame if he does walk. There have been no illusions from Conte’s side, and if the club doesn’t bring their end to the table he will be well within reason to walk away.

Can’t disagree, just find it all very tiring.

Yeah us not spending adequately to really compete annoys me much more than any Conte 'antics'. If Conte walks it's not bleak to me because we lost a good manager it's bleak because it signals we're not yet willing to really make that push to compete at the top.

I'll be honest, if we contrive to get Conte to quit on the basis of Levy (and the baord's) interference, reneging on promises and pining for Poch then there's a petulant side in me that would just want the club to crash and burn metaphorically speaking as a way of forcing these smarmy, know-all fucks out the door!

I think this ends badly whether he signs or not. Somewhere down the line we'll balls it up , let's be honest.

There’s a load’a very similar posts with the general theme being “IF Levy f**ks this up” bla bla bla.

But what *IF* it’s Conte who fucks this up? Would we ever know for sure what’s happening behind the scenes?

I appreciate this question is hypothetical to a large extent as it’s unlikely to be common knowledge. But just posing an alternative view point to the status quo.

I don’t think either side looks great. If we want to compete on the grandest stage then we need January investment. Arsenal look strong as can be on the wingers side but still looking to invest in Murdyk. Newcastle gonna be strong. We’ve clearly got weakness in defence and RB/RWB.

However without commitment for him to stay means buying players for a system that doesn’t seem to work and won’t suit other managers is also bit odd. I can’t blame Levy for wanting commitment to stay before investing in say a top RWB if he’s walking in the summer and next manager plays system it won’t work in. Looks like Tottenham as per usual stuck between rock and hard place.
