Was there even a formal announcement from the club that he's away?

Looks like Real Madrid have given his 11 shirt away and he was wearing 50 in pre-season game..,

Come back to us Bale, number 11 is now free and waiting for you… ??

Was that needed? I don't remember any players thanking the facility and/or staffs for (Euro2020) pre-season training.

Why would we be annoyed? He'd already stated he was going back to Madrid and how pleased he was to be back playing football for us. I think were under the impression that he would stay another season but when ZZ left that changed.

I think some fans were under that impression, but I never got the impression the club were and as you say Zidane leaving made it pretty certain he was staying at Real anyway.

Bale back on deadline day?

When we're scrambling across Europe for Kane replacements

He used us because it benefited him, it’s what footballers do these days (Sonaldo aside) - get used to it.

And we took him on because we're a philanthropic homeless shelter?

I don’t think the ownership is as naive as some fans might be, this eventuality would have been factored in when we took him on loan (hence the subsidised wages).

Probably still got the short end of the stick, building up his match fitness so Wales and Madrid can reap the rewards. (Like when you take your bird to the gym to teach her all the routines to get a big batty and then you break up and some next man benefits from those gains instead)

I must admit seeing him turn out for them in a friendly was a bit of a surprise - he kept saying all chaos would break loose when he said what he was going to do? I would say maybe its the fires in Greece but that would be a tasteless joke...

I felt like the 20/21 Bale was a completely different person to the young Bale we enjoyed. I didn't really take to this new Bale. Glad he isn't coming back. Time to move on.

Yeah bit strange, seeing out his final year in Madrid isn't exactly surprising nor controversial
