Its so sad.

He was supposed to come over here as part of the Masters footy thing, but the PFA wouldn't sanction him travelling (as he is working as a footballer he has to be approved and they wouldn't do it as he is a proper nutter). He went to Dubai last year but only because Chrissy Waddle went with him and kept him on a tight leash, making sure he was able to get to press conferences, events, etc on time, or indeed at all.

Very, very sad.

Gazza held after incident

Thursday 21 Feb 2008
Former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been arrested and sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
The 40-year-old ex-England international, who also counts Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley among his former clubs, was detained following a report of a disturbance at a hotel in Gateshead on Wednesday night.

PAUL GASCOIGNE

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel.
"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no-one was injured during the incident."
Newcastle-born Gascoigne has a history of erratic behaviour during a 17-year career as a player and subsequent brief spell in management.
Last summer, he underwent emergency surgery on a perforated stomach ulcer after falling ill.

He was also arrested after an alleged assault on a press photographer in December 2005 after being sacked as Kettering Town manager following a 39-day tenure at the non-league club.
Oh dear poor old Gazza.

Terrible news this, it's always sad when someone succombs to the drink, I think that's what this is, not strictly a mental health thing as we would imagine but simple alcaholism.

I don't know for sure and I don't have any ITK but I believe it's that.

In 1991 we beat the scum in the semi and had to win the cup for a hospitalised gazza - getting a strange deja-vu here...

His hair might be the most tragic thing in this history.

Yes, a true Spurs hero/legend but mostly i find it very hard to feel sorry for people that fuck their lives up beyond recognizion....especially when all the ingrediens for success is handed to them.

BUT....things are definitely different if there's mental illness involved or something like that.

Personally i feel mostly sorry for the kids. :-|
