Looks like McKennie to Juventus is done. Being reported as 3mil loan fee + 18mil to make it permanent. I said it in the McKennie thread, but it still seems to be a strange move for all parties. Weston clearly seems to rate himself, so hopefully he can break into that side. Going to be tough with at least Rabiot, Betancur, and Artur ahead of him with Ramsey still there too.

Wasn't sure where to put this but they do make impressive sales.

They seem to have a good recruitment team there, which is imperative if you're looking to 'sell to buy'.

Overall though, it's one of the reasons I don't get too fussed these days when our players are linked with big money moves. We can always use the money to bring two or three players in to improve the overall squad.

In many respects, we probably should have done this with Eriksen or Alli over the last few years. Either player would have netted us over 80m at their peak. That would have got us Maddison, Grealish and possibly even Zaha. One out, three in.

That said, our recruitment hasn't been particularly good over past seasons, although Jose seems to be sorting that out now.

It’s a fantastic model they’ve got. Buy mainly HG players from the lower leagues and develop them. However, I believe they have the patience of their support to do so. Even after a league win, the expectation there is much lower than it is for us. I doubt we’d be able to copy their model.

PR signing. Juventus looking to increase their US fan base. He'll get as much game time as Danny Drinkwater did at Chelsea.

With West Ham, I think them never having a sale 25m+ is due to their little man syndrome. If any club wants to buy their players, they always sound off with the, "We won't sell, we're fkin West Ham - we don't get pushed around" bollocks. Hope they go into liquidation at some point.

I agree. Look how poorly the fans reacted to the sales of Berba, Modric and Bale. I don't think we are quite accepting that all clubs sell players. Look at Liverpool and the way they have sold Coutinho and kept improving. It can be done but it needs everyone to be behind it.

I thibk we got things wrong recently with Eriksen and look how it hurt us. We could have got big money for him if we sold at the right time.

I don’t think so. It should be pretty clear by now that signing Americans to warm your bench for PR just doesn’t work. Juventus are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and with Ronaldo I don’t exactly think they’re hurting for notoriety. Americans either already have teams they support or aren’t watching Euro soccer. It’s different right after a WC, but McKennie isn’t exactly a household name over here.
I think it has more to do with Juve being in a crap position financially. Much like us with Gedson, this could be a pretty good deal for them. If it doesn’t work out, then it didn’t cost you much. I think he’ll get more time than Drinkwater, but I doubt he’s going to nail down a place in the XI.

Stoke will need to get a lot better very quickly for that to happen :p

What is the equivalent in the PL now? No Stoke, no Bolton, WBA have Bilic in charge and might actually play football now.

Burnley or Leeds surely?

What like being linked with Doherty on Monday and we might sign him this weekend? Or Bergwijn which was done in 4/5 days? Or Hart that was done in 24 hours of the first link?

Interesting to see what Thiago Silva's role at Chelsea will be. He's going to be 36 when the season starts, so I can't see him playing twice a week.

Good signing even if he's just an experienced head in the dressing room. Chelsea don't really have many of them now Pedro and Willian have gone.

Is this lad good? I have heard of him and some good things but could of sworn he was heavily linked to us?
He was. He may have been one we'd have signed as a "nice to have" if this were an ordinary summer. On the other hand, he might have consciously chosen the Maddison route for himself - go to a lower PL team and play every week to carry on developing. Good for him.

He was but due to Poch sacking and COVID our priorities changed. From what I know he’s talented if a bit inconsistent. Also known to be a little lazy tracking back.
