I know people will disagree, but he is average, a decent squad player and links well enough in a 3 man midfield.

Even at Liverpool when he was at his 'peak' he was good, but nothing special. Now he is 31 and went to PSG for his final payday.

We should have learnt, cast offs from psg are not a good idea.

And while we are here stop with the draxler links, it's been fucking 10 years of this shit. He was a promising youngster who never quite made the level required.

Both are not good enough.

Navas, marquinos, kimpembe, hakimi, verrati, di María and of course their front 3. Wake me up if we are linked to any of these.

Wijnaldum would be our best midfielder lol

We no longer have prime Eriksen, Wanyama, Dembele etc. Our options currently are extremely limited.

He'd be a great signing for 6 months.

No he wouldn't, but for arguments sake let's say he would be good in our midfield.

Do we really want a player who runs down his contract at a team who are playing brilliant football and leaves for a payday. I would question his motivation, and for that matter why would he come to spurs?

We want players who have something to prove.

He was one of the best midfielders in Europe at Liverpool, consistently so. He won the title with them, he’s anything but average he was class.

We have a midfield of winks, PEH and skipp. He’d instantly be our best midfielder by a distance. He’s about as good as we could hope to sign in January, not that it will happen really.

In his defence he's 31 and that was his last big move. Can't really blame the guy for looking for a payday as I doubt he was one of Liverpool's best paid players and PSG probably offered him silly money.

In terms of having something to prove, he will want to be in the Dutch team for the World Cup so could use regular minutes if he's not going to get them at PSG.

I agree we should question his motivations if we want to bring him in though. Not hugely encouraging if he doesn't want to fight for his place at PSG after only 6 months at the club (unless he just wants regular game time on loan until Poch inevitably leaves in the summer).

Agree totally but if it’s true that we’re signing Traore £20m+ and him on loan we really are broke.

For the record though, I’d be very up for him coming in. ?

Most clubs don't splash serious cash in Jan as the market's awful and you get fleeced.

City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal and Liverpool could all use strengthening in certain areas (and sure as hell aren't broke) but not a single one has made a signing yet.

Realistically, Traore + 1 or 2 others (perm or loan) and a few deadwood out the door would be a very solid window in my book.

Now if we don't spend big money in the summer to back Conte - that's when I'll think were broke.

This isn’t a normal January window for us though.
We are paying Paratiti an arm and a leg because he’s brilliant at getting unlikely deals done apparently. We have an unbelievably great chance of top four if we recruit well and a World Class manager aswell.
If you think that Adama and some bench warmer improves us and gives us a better chance of European football, then good for you and I’ll be very wrong.
I’ve never wanted you to be right and me wrong in my life. ?

Yeah I get where you're coming from, but it's always a balancing act.

Let's say we have 5 top players pencilled in for a certain position that we really want to sign.

- 3 of the clubs outright refuse to sell any important players mid-season.
- 1 of the other 2 players wants to stay at his club until the summer so he can get a signing on fee when his contract runs out.
- The last player's club will sell but only for £15 million above market value as they won't be able to get a replacement in Jan.

What do you do? Massively overpay for the signing? Drop down to a lower tier of player who will require replacing in a year anyway?

It's not a simple as just 'pay the money' or every club would do it in January.

I get that top 4 is on the line and I think that's why we're trying to do business but we also need to be realistic about our expectation this window.

We'd be in the top two if the season started when Conte took over, and we have no European distractions 2nd half of the season. Even if we only signed Traore we'd be better.

He was never on as a signing, it was a tenuous link in the daily mail. All the reliable journalists have said is he’s not a part of negotiations.

That’s the problem with transfer
media, we get linked to unrealistic targets that are never really on, and then when they don’t happen fans get disappointed.

I sincerely do hope though that the club will bring in a good CM this week, we really need one.

Have a feeling if we sign a CM its gonna be someone we get linked to a day before deadline day or something tbh

Would be such a sensible signing, so likely not a runner. He has a league title and CL run on the horizon at PSG so do not think he is moving anywhere.

Such a pity we turned down the previous offer from PSG for Dele. Crazy when you look back
Agree but wasn’t it just a loan? I doubt he’d have done much for them that would’ve made them want him after that 6 month window but we’ll never know.

I think it was just a case that PSG gave him crazy money on a free, and it was realistically his last big contract. He's still a class player. I wanted us to go for him before he went to Newcastle. I was amazed they got him.

Didn't he want a longer contract than Liverpool were offering?
