I thought this was quite an interesting quote (putting aside the usual animosity) from someone who does know his stuff:

“Jack is starting to run,” Wenger said. “Once you move out, from the first day, you count six weeks to be competitive and build up stamina and intensity. You need six weeks to be ready fitness-wise.”

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread - I was thinking of Vertonghen and Pritch.

Wenger's the last man I'd take fitness advice from, to be honest. I like my hamstrings how they are.
I'm not sure this is about hamstrings. Wenger is a football man. What he seems to be saying is that once the injury's healed, it's going to take 6 weeks to get back to PL readiness.

I agree. He always rushed players back before they are ready. Eg. Wilshit, Walcott and fabregas to name but three.

Forget Arsenal then. :) I thought the six week time-frame was quite interesting.

There's no time frame necessarily. Players will recover at different rates. I think 6 weeks sounds like a long time if you're already running. Maybe it's more like 6 weeks to get your sharpness back. It will depend on how well your rehab went and whether you stay on a good diet.

depends how long the player has been out for as to how long he needs to build up stamina - if he's only been out for a month 6 weeks is to long, if out for a year, 6 weeks could be too short

Depends where they are in general fitness when Injured.

I mean someone like Wishere, it's gonna take at least 5 fags to get back to some sort of fitness.

He's talking specifically about Wilshere and the injury he has/amount of time he's been out for. Not sure that you can apply this in any way to other players unless they've been out for the same amount of time

He does mention that Jack is starting to run, so if we assume he is probably now fully functional, but weak/unfit, then 6 weeks is about right.
I've coached non runners to 1hr10m half marathon times in under 5 weeks and prepped MMA guys for international level comp in about 6.
So match fitness for football in 6 seems about right.
I have a friend who does freelance fitness work with a few prem teams, I'll see what he has to say about fitness time tables.
